Come on Twalden, force me to work harder.
How's this? I'm trying, but stage 5 gets tough. I'm getting better at it though 8)
Damn, that's quite an increase!

Stage 5 is tough as nails for sure. I'm off to give it a crack. :)

Got Futari again (borrowed from Runefaust, major props to him) so you can expect some new scores from me soon.
After a few credits i could cough up a small improvement:

1.5 - Maniac - Reco
Jockel - 87,794,552 - 3 (Boss) - Normal

Can't comment on maniac, but original mode in this is REALLY frustrating me. More than any Cave game to date. :x

I have a burning hatred for stage 3.

My stage 3 was like that with me for a while, but I think I've got it down. It helped my score out quite a bit. Just find a route through that works and stick with it. Taking out the smaller enemies before the big insects helps prevent a lot of stupid deaths for me most of the time. Getting to the final boss now, but my game still needs a lot of work.

Trying to beat your current Hi-score means I'm looking much more meticulously at scoring opportunities, and dying far earlier because of it. Seriously, I should just let some of those gems go. I don't think stage 3 is engineered for you to take out larger enemies with the C shot - it's just suicide come of the time - and everything after the mid-boss is a nightmare if you don't use the shot types for survival rather than score. :?

Surviving (especially without bombing) as long as possible is really where the score is at in Original Mode. There is no shame or significant loss in letting some gems go in the rough sections. Get that counter up as high as possible when you feel comfortable doing so and let it carry you later on when the difficulty ramps up. Losing a life is the real score killer--not doing so should always be your first priority in Original mode. Bombing drops your count a bit, too, but is also affordable in particularly sticky situations in the interest of that first priority.

I still have to use at least one Bomb @ Boss 3, man I hate that Spider. Stage 4 is so much Fun
and the Gem Count just jumps up.

Thanks Necro, that's good advice. So it's similar to Original mode on the first Mushi in that respect. Back to the drawing board for me. :o

Obscene amounts of optimization possible from here. Stage 3 was very kind.

I think this is my first real arcade 1CC. Neat. :)

Great score. I was able to imply that this was Original Mode, but can you help me out next time? Thanks.

Well whaddya know...

1.5 Original - Reco
Skykid - 205,164,700 - Stage 5 BOSS - Normal

Seriously, I need someone to teach me a discipline in actually using bombs. On this run I lost a few lives but managed to grab the stage 5 one for the first time without dying in the process.
I reached the boss with 2 lives in stock and three bombs, and royally fucked it up. I just don't know those patterns yet, and some of them are quick indeed! :(

Yeah, Skyline had an amazing run up to Stage 5, better than any of mine. I think we both need to get a good working path down for Stage 5 tho just so we don't waste these great runs at the end from lack of practice.

I think the stage 3 boss in Original is harder than his Maniac incarnation, even.

Slight improvement.

Futari 1.5 - Ultra - Reco
MHK - 530,291,857 - Stage 4 - Normal

(Extend Setting: Default - 1st 250,000,000; 2nd 650,000,000)

Image

Image

(It's definitely an ultra mode score. High score table still not workig properly)

Scorewise, it was a poor game. Died once just before Stage 2 midboss and once just after Stage 3 midboss, which explained the low score.

Made a mess of Stage 2 boss second form. Tried to kill it with normal fire (green counter), lost a life as a result of that (my ship was too fast). Then killed it when there was no bullet on the screen.

Game ended at the beginning of Stage 4.

Thanks buddy, much appreciated. :o
It came out of nowhere - I didn't expect it yet. I once again proved to myself that good bomb use makes the difference in finishing a shmup. I actually could've finished the game with 1 life in stock but I thought I'd chance it as the boss bar was almost done - and died. Stupid. :(

How much is each remaining life stock worth when you finish Original mode, anyone know?
