I have to say I quite like it. The screen is much bigger than the DSi, which was already bigger than the original DS. The bigger size of the machine will probably help alleviate hand cramps, but it looks like they haven't changed the square design at all. My palms always hurt after playing action games on my DS Lite for long periods of time because they get pressed against the sharp corners of the machine. I don't have this problem with the original DS, which is curved around the corners, or the PSP/PSP Lite.
I might get one if my DS Lite dies and the price is right. Damn thing is more expensive than a Wii . WTF.

I like it, for the sole reason that it's big. Seriously, it's a nice change for a company to bring out a bigger version of a portable device instead of trying to make the damned things smaller [and flimsier, and with tiny, barely usable screens]
Now if only they'd make the buttons less likely to break. Hopefully the size means better build quality. I had to pass up a $12 copy of Bangai-O Spirits because my DS had screwy buttons. Having the buttons die like they do [hell, my L button died, and the only thing I needed that for was when playing Sonic Battle, to rotate the camera. I was amazed that my R button only recently started to fail, considering that every portable Sonic game ever [save SPA and SAdv1] needed it, so I'd be mashing it like crazy. I'm really surprised that my Y button is failing, considering I almost never use it. Blood cheap buttons!] is terrible.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
For reals! The buttons on the DS Lite suck ass. My launch DS Lite had a sucky d-pad and the PCB under the face buttons cracked after like a year and a half, so anytime I pressed any button, the thing would turn off. The DS is probably Nintendo's flimsiest hardware. I abused my original GB and GBA and yet they lived so long I didn't want them anymore and gave them away.

As I recently mentioned, it's obviously not changing resolutions, so they can only do so much with it. This upgrade bothers me because now with my current DSi, I feel like there's borders around the physical screens. Thankfully it's black, so I can't really see it unless I'm deliberately wanting to.
I wonder where Nintendo plan on sticking that insanely large stylus. I have a few suggestions.
Increasing the resolution will only make things worse. You'll have large borders and an image the size of a stamp in the middle. Kind of like playing GBA games on the DS.
The DS's successor should definitely have higher resolution screens. However, I don't know how much more they can increase the resolution on a small screen until it's meaningless. I personally play my portables at home or carry them in my bag so portability is not as important as comfort and system capabilities. It'd be cool with me if the DS's successor had an screen even bigger than the DSi XL and much higher resolution.

I play enough RPGs, usually in Japanese, on the DS that this will probably be worth it simply because reading on it will be easier. Can't say I'm thrilled about buying yet another iteration of the same system, but I loves me my DS, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one.

Apparently to get people with bad vision to buy the system. But think about it, each of those screens will be about the size of the PSP screen! (PSP 4.3 inches vs DSi XL 4.2 inches each.) It's just like replacing your HDTV with a much bigger one. Say from 19" to 50". There won't be any increase in resolution, but it is damn nice to have a bigger picture. You don't have to have bad vision to appreciate the increase in size.
Also, no doubt the system will be less cramptastic and hopefully less lethal to the palms.

I think piracy might be one of the main reasons they are releasing the second redesign in the span of roughly one year.
The DSi is still doing quite well in the sales departement so just "raising sales" can't be the reason.
They tried to block Flashcards out of the DSi, they failed.
I'd bet that the new DSi LL or whatever it's called will have new security features.
A GBA slot would be ace. They got plenty of space to incorporate it back without making the cartridges stick out like a tumor and thanks to the bigger screen, the image won't be postage size. I really doubt they'll bring it back, though. Big corporations are not in business to make people happy.
