High Tech! Hi Fi! Proven Money Making Performance!

LAST UPDATE: December 28th, 2014

All versions accepted (for Terra Cresta PCB, MAME and PS2 share a board. C64 and NES have their own board// For Terra Cresta II there's just the one of course). All defaults please. Thanks to raiden for running the previous thread. Here's Shmups.com's review of the game and here's a strategy guide for the first game over on Strategy Wiki.

Formatting like this please: Name - Score - Format

Enjoy, and whatever your score, good or bad, please submit!

Shit - teach me to set up boards in the middle of the night when I should be in bed. Twice I did that this weekend!

Thanks for the heads up CHI, and I'm fixing it now....

An interesting classic old game (Arcade ver). If I can make the time, I'll give it another go.

I'd love to see what you could score on this DEL. Actually, didn't you say there was a cab running this in London a while back? Was that back at the game's launch, or more recently?

This really is a great game, and underrated, or at least under-played. I think I'm right that it was fairly seminal as one of the mid-eighties shooters introducing several stalwart elements to the genre.

Get playing people!

Dah! But fourth place had my name written all over (next to) it!

Good work though, and I'll see what I can do this weekend.

Glad to see there's some people playing this, and a bit of competition in the board! Invite your friends!

No luck getting back at you this weekend incognoscente - I was just playing terribly - but I'll have you yet!

Hopefully DEL, CHI and maybe mr_m0nks will have something to submit soon...

Of course you can join in roadrunner. The more the merrier!

Welcome to this thread, and welcome to the forum!

I've updated the table with your score, and I've added in some new blank spaces so people know there's plenty of room for new scores.

And roadrunner – here's a little guide to inserting images and URLs. You need to upload the image to something like FiickR or Photobucket and get the image's URL.

To insert an image type (obviously you replace the caps):

Or here's your image!

Updated!

I had about 10 credits never getting past 70k, and then suddenly one life took me to about 140k, where I then ballsed it all up - it's one of those games where what you can do on one life is all important.

Definitely do. It would be great to see a C64 submission, and you're the man to represent our beloved Commodore - and you can tell us if the scoring is the same...

Ed Oscuro - 173,400 - MAME Plus! 0.134u1

Autofire on just to save my hand. You can't pump out more shots at a time than the game will let you, it makes the fire rate pretty constant. I actually like how this game treats quick firing, although no doubt it'd be frustrating to people who want to point-blank.

Doh, I finally started using the secondary attacks

The good part of that is that I got through a whole slew of bosses I'd never seen before on my first try, including the one with all the sickles and rocket hands (heh, reminds me of an old 80s scifi movie...)

I really had never appreciated how much like Ninja Emaki this is, lovely. Got to hunt down the board now.

Got a couple of new scores

54100 MAME

30000 C64

the trick to playing the C64 version is to mute the sound :S

also tried the nes version.

62100 NES

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k208/ ... escore.jpg

this was just my second go.

in my opinion the NES version is significantly easier than the arcade and the C64 version is significantly harder

I don't know. NES version has some easier formations, is missing the extending enemies entirely, but has some enemies that fly up from behind and so is a bit difficult to get the hang of. I only got ~100K after a few tries yesterday.

I found the NES version easier based on the speed of your craft, it just seems easier to dodge stuff in the NES version.

The port is good but it's not arcade perfect, so the two versions shouldn't be lumped together.

Already sorting it! Sorry I hadn't done this earlier, but as soon it became apparent in the few post above, it was clear they need to be split.

doing it now...

EDIT: Done it, or at least for now. So we have some new members in new top-spots! Until I get a chance to look into it, for now I'm keeping PS2 with MAME and PCB. I've only played a couple of credits on PS2; it felt close enough, but the aspect ratio is crazy different.

And thanks for all your efforts with getting this thread 'on the level'. I'm glad to have it split properly, and glad to hear Ed's news on Autofire; that makes like easier.

Now for some more playing please! I'm off to Russia on a work trip for a few days, but once I return I'll try and get myself playing the NES or C64 versions.

Ed Oscuro - 226,200 - NES - default formations - autofire pattern: 1 on, 1 off, offset 0

Not too bad. Last time I played I had come straight off the arcade version and the differences are enough to throw one off. It's definitely easier with the lack of certain enemies and extends come pretty frequently. Also, as with the arcade I don't think that autofire rates make a difference.

Ed Oscuro - 257,200 - NES (fceux-2.1.1.win32) - custom formations - autofire pattern: 1 on, 1 off, offset 0

Don't use the custom formation...or at least put some spread on them so you can tell where bullets are coming around your craft. Pain in the ass to die that way. Visibility is knocking me out, and after a few more plays I didn't get a higher score, although I got farther than I had before :?

Ed Oscuro - 40,400 - C64 (WinVICE 2.1) - joystick autofire setting 8

This terrible port is awkward and demanding enough without having to reach to the keyboard to activate formations (and activating formations often bones you when some enemy is planted in the very edge of the screen where you MUST have the wide forward shot to hit them, or something considerably higher like the wide formation shot). No fun can be had since you spend all your time chasing to the next place you absolutely must be or else get hit. The game doesn't even let you survive a hit when you're bulked up with formation parts - what a piece of shit.
