If Yasset Arafat got a Nobel Peace Prize for sitting down and agreeing to a 5 year armistice, what's so strange about Obama getting the prize? He doesn't really deserve it right now but if he wants any sort of credibility at the end of his term, he'll have followed peaceful guidelines to the tee and gotten us out of Iraq and Afghanistan. That's more than McCain would've done in his entire term so yes, Obama's ideology of peace is affecting the world already.

He's got the right attitude about it, and I wasn't familiar with the history of the award; given all that I suppose it makes sense. It's more of a "You can not fuck up for this" award

Asking for contributions to the RNC of $25 to $1,000, [Republican National Committee Chairman Michael] Steele wrote that "the Democrats and their international leftist allies want America made subservient to the agenda of global redistribution and control. And truly patriotic Americans like you and our Republican Party are the only thing standing in their way."

Michael Steele is nuts.

But I did enjoy his rap "battle" with Stephen Colbert. Even though he didn't show up.

I would link it, but I don't know where to find it. Damn copyright laws.

“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists — the Taliban and Hamas this morning — in criticizing the president for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize” - some douche at the DNC
Good to see that the Democrats aren't above the scumfuck demagoguery they condemned the Republicans for.

In other news, I am announcing my intent to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010. If I have the prize I promise to do many things to help the world and the climate and the poor and the economy and places with war and not nuclear weapons and any other things which one can do in order to receive this award.

I will be so peaceful.

Actually, Rush himself was the first to say it.

Comparing the Cons (or most anyone, really) directly to terrorists is absurd on its face (carrying loaded assault weapons to health care debates notwithstanding), but seriously, could Rush have phrased what he said ANY more stupidly (not like this is the first time he's pulled this, of course)? Moreover, can you IMAGINE what the reaction of conservatives would have been if some liberal had said "we agree with Saddam that Bush shouldn't have invaded Iraq" or something like that? That was the sort of ludicrous charge that they leveled against the previous administration's critics ("you want the terrorists to win!") even when nobody actually said it - now that the shoe's on the other foot, one of them DOES say it (or at least came a lot closer to it than any liberal ever did), and afterwards they immediately go on to bluster and moan about how overblown the liberal reaction to it is. There's simply no way to satirize the right's behavior of late, though my hat's off to anyone who tries.

Honestly, I don't think it matters what Rush said because he's not a party official. The douche that said what I posted earlier is. That's the difference. And the "Can you imagine how conservatives would react", tit-for-tat shit is nonsense. It's why political discourse is in the sewer, officials and politicians in both parties would rather swim around in the shit than attempt to elevate the discussion to something approaching rational or reasonable.

When the chairman of the party issues a gushing public apology for saying that Rush's show can be "incendiary" and "ugly", the issue of who's a "party official" loses a lot of relevance.

the more air time people like Rush and Beck get the more unelectable the Republicans appear - they need the middle ground vote to swing things and right now the support base just looks like a bunch of loons - that's sure to turn voters off and, as i said before, i think Obama is deliberately lighting fires under them to make sure they keep making noise.

If that's the issue you have then it'd definitely be nice to see more conservatives (both elected and non-) at least distancing themselves from him and those like him, though of course the few who have dared to openly criticize that manner of speech as detrimental to the movement at large have been screeched at from all corners of the conservative spectrum, and most didn't take long to weepily apologize. Of course, the fact that the Repubs proudly made him an honorary congressman back in the 90's (and, again, the fact that few, if any, conservatives of any sort are rethinking that honor) doesn't help either...not to mention that Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, the Baldwins, and any number of other liberals aren't elected either, but are constantly demonized and used as figureheads by the opposition regardless. Presumably you think that their comments are irrelevant as well - and even if you do, the majority of cons (elected ones included) clearly don't agree with you.
And the "Can you imagine how conservatives would react", tit-for-tat shit is nonsense.
Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned it is - libs are no angels, but there's no way that they're as routinely, violently reactionary as conservatives, at least these days. If any liberal uttered some far-left radical equivalent of a fraction of the things that legion conservative commentators utter daily (off the cuff, did anyone fantasize about poisoning Newt Gingrich back in the day?) he'd be off the air in two second flat (Dan Rather, anyone?), if not on the terrorist watch list - I'm aware that the "it's everybody's fault" crowd are generally hailed (mostly by themselves) as the ones "willing to tell it like it is", but sorry, anyone who hasn't seen an incredibly pronounced double standard in the treatment of liberal versus conservative rhetoric over the past decade or more has his head as deep in the sand as it can go. If anyone really wants to raise the level of discourse, he needs to start by calling a spade a spade no matter who says it, which by and large has not happened around here for a LONG time.

So, what part of the original statement isn't factually true? The RNC is indeed in the same lot with the Taliban and Hamas in criticizing the prize.

Furthermore, before Medvedev's and Castro's comments on the prize were even known Steele was accusing Obama of being in bed with "leftist allies." I mean, holy shit, the President is a traitor now?

Amen to that. Steele should take a line from the Duke and grow a pair.

Yeah, Rush is definitely the leader of the Republican party, not Douchey McSleepyface. As has been said before: "Republicans looked for the future and they found radio."
