shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
yeah i know its just an issue that couldnt get resolved.
for anyone that needs the ingame menu.
first press back and black together to pause the game.
then press back and white together to enter the in game menu.
you can remap the gamepad to whichever you like it or use the dipswitches,cheats........blahblah...you get the idea!
im actually testing a new version of this with more options added.
with original aspect ratio on horizontal games
original aspect ratio on vertical games.
bezels,artwork now included.
option to mount screen as horizontal(the same as screen rotate but the buttons and pad arent rotated).
its hard to keep up with all the new additions.

I just tried the new Coipops Ignite standalone and it is great. Thanks for the heads up. The games feel much more playable and responsive than they did in fbaxxx. Also seems to play several more games that didn't work in fbaxxx.
Regarding the x68000 emulator, has anyone gotten Otoko Dama to work? I have been itching to play this for a long time.

Nevermind. I figured it out! Great game. Seems to run quite well too. Some sound fx seem a little buggy but other than that good to go. I am having trouble determining if the game is running at the right speed. I only have youtube videos to compare to. Anyone else try this game on x68000x?Regarding the x68000 emulator, has anyone gotten Otoko Dama to work? I have been itching to play this for a long time.

Yeah, I got Chorensha and Otoko Dama on there at the moment and they are incredibly good fun.
I am not a fan of emulation, though I use it. I purchased the xbox just to mod and run FBAXXX a while ago....it wasn't good enough so I bought a supergun and have purchased a few pcb's since then.
Coinops, however, rekindled my interest and faith and is proving to be a perfect way to take my games on the go. And now having x68000x makes the the old xbox all the better...just makes me want a x68k now (just as emulation led me to the purchase of a supergun)

Thanks for the heads up. I will certainly will give the PC Engine emu a shot. I presume it plays anything, including Supergrafx stuff?
Just got a component cable for the xbox for $5. I know the xbox won't output 240p, but I have it going from component into my xrgb2+. Turn off all filtering/anti aliasing in the emus and turn the sharpness and scan lines all the way up on the xrgb. I am quite pleased with the picture. Its no "thick scanlines 240p good", but better than any other monitor setup I have at the moment.

Actually, Sengeki Striker runs on Super Kaneko Nova 32-bit hardware (as Cyvern does, with one SH-2 @ around 28.6 MHz). The Saturn/STV is double SH-2 at the same speed. I could see Shienryu being even worse on speed.fumanchu wrote: sengeki striker runs way to slow on coinops and mameox128 seeing as it is based on stv hardware.brave blade is really slow as well as that is based on ps1 arcade hardware.
if you want to run sengeki striker then play it on pcsxbox19 as it plays perfectly.
cyvern in tate mode along with other shmups plays fine.
I've tried the SG GnG- not bad at all. I would've liked to see Strider to follow that one up. MD Strider at 8-Meg is a tough version to top, but the SG could surely have done a kickass job with a 12-Meg card. The existing Arcade Card CD version should really have been better than it is - I wish I knew why the hell it looked worse than the MD cart, esp. when the AC's RAM is double that size.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
cyvern works just fine,it could just be your rom you are using.Exe wrote:Coinops Ignite is quite nice.
I'm wondering if there are input delay fixes for games like Batrider?
Is there a special trick to get Cyvern to work? My Xbox is freezing when I'm trying to load it.
you could be missing the bios file skns,it goes into your roms folder.
Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
ok guys new release for coinops ignite now is at version3.
coinops ignite v3
new features and changes.
Background Music while selecting games
New Settings and Revamped Settings
New Reset To Defaults Settings
New fancy intergrated Random Game/Fav Selector/Launcher
Mouse/Trackball Support
Bug Fixs (like R2 you couldnt set more paths in hiddensettings)
More sensitivity adjustments for analog games
improved launching screen
improved OSD for cheats and gamepad etc
Tidyups
in version2 there were improvements made to autofire where you can assign to any button and improvements made to auto rotate screen so it will only rotate vertical shooters and all your other vertical games will not be rotated.
obviously these changes made in v2 are also in v3.

Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
Hey guys. I know this thread has been inactive for a few months but I could use some help. I recently softmodded my Xbox - literally yesterday - and used AutoInstaller Deluxe vers 4.0 to put a bunch of emulators on there. Here's the problem: the emulators seem pretty outdated. A bunch of the games I downloaded for MAMEdox had missing files and wouldn't run. About the only shmup I could get running was AeroFighters 1. And for what ever reason, fbaxxx and fbaxxx pro won't even load...they just crash/glitch right on start up.
Here's my question: what emulators would you recommend that I put on my Xbox in order to be able to play the latest MAME files, as well as the shmups you guys have mentioned?
Also, is putting these emulators on to my Xbox as simple as copying them to the emulators folder, or do they have to be installed?
I can't really do FTP because my Xbox is so far from my modem and router. I've been relying on burned DVDs for everything.
Thanks, I really appreciate any help. I'd love to be able to play more shmups on my Xbox.

Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
Well guys, it took some time and several wasted DVDs, but I ended up getting CoinOps Reignite Standlaone HD to run on my XBox. I'm assuming that's the most current version but this thing seems to update all the time and I had a hard time actually finding the thing available for download.
So far it seems pretty awesome, and at least 85% of the games I had problems with on MAMEdox work on CoinOps. The only two games I couldn't get to work were Cyvern and Mars Matrix, which both claimed to have missing files. I'm not sure if that's a case of CoinOps being outdated or the files I downloaded being outdated.
The import thing is that I got a few Cave shooters to work.
And Continue, I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm pretty sure a Xbox mod requires one of two things: a.) a softmod (which is what I did), or b.) a hardmod involving soldering a chip onto the motherboard and all that. If you've screwed up a softmod and accidentally unlocked your system, or you just want to increase your Xbox's HDD, I believe you have to do a hardmod.

Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
I figured I'd chime in since the old Xbox is my shmup platform of choice (aside from the PS2 and the limited US 360 releases we receive
). I'll try to help out when I can.
The people who are complaining about incorrect roms with CoinOPS need to get ones that are compatible with MAME 0.84. You can download that version of Mame for your PC to test the games before transferring them to your Xbox. I would also recommend using RomCenter to audit your roms.
CoinOPS is the way to go for Mame. The most recent versions forceably rotate the controls when you rotate the screen. This is is ridiculous when you're playing a vertical game. Maybe there's someone out there who enjoys playing with their stick turned sideways. I personally do not. The older builds don't do this. Since the core of Mame it uses doesn't change (and is considerably outdated) there's no disadvantage to using an older version. There are other releases of Mame, but they have their own issues. The last build of MAMEoX occasionally hangs on my system and requires the game save to be deleted/recreated. I haven't seen this with CoinOPS.
FBA-XXX Pro is my emulator of choice. It doesn't run as many games as CoinOPS, but the emulation is considerably better imho. There aren't random hiccups and slowdown like with CoinOPS. It feels much more like you're running the game on real hardware versus kludging along on some inferior downloaded mess. Quality versus quantity. One notably thing with it is that the in-game menu is activated by clicking in the right thumbstick (R3). If you're using a stick be sure to connect an Xbox controller to one of the other ports. Otherwise you won't be pausing your game. This is also how the rapid fire options are enabled.
Personally, I only play vertical shmups since the TV on my desk is rotated. Here's my semi-comprehensive list of vertical titles for FBA-XXX Pro. This may include a couple of land-based shmups (no harm there). This does not include any clones or revisions, etc. This was generated from a complete romset and includes 30+ titles. If there's an obvious omission I'll be sure and update it.

Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
Quick question - I found a list of games compatible with MAME .84 at Xbox-scene. The only thing is, they list a bunch of games as incompatible that I've gotten to work with CoinOPs Reignite, such as ESP Ra and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs. Would this list not be helpful then? I guess I can use it as a general guideline for what games do work.
Here's a list of games I haven't been able to get to run. Some are vertical, some are horizontal. Most of them claimed to be missing files.
Raiden Fighters 2 (supposed to work with CoinOPS)
Cotton
Cotton 2 (this one said something about not having enough internal memory to run)
Cyvern
G-Parodius
Mars Matrix (just missing 3 files)
Progear
Also could not get Golden Axe: Revenge of the Death Adder or Die Hard Arcade to run.
I'd appreciate any help/advice.

Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
Now I'm confused. I'm pretty sure that CoinOPS told me that Mars Matrix was missing the files "mmxux.03", .04, and .05. I checked the file that I used and it has the files "mmxu.03," etc. Wouldn't they be the same thing, or is mmxux an updated version of Mars Matrix?
Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
the list over at xbox scene is a waste of time dont bother with it.BelmontHeir wrote:Quick question - I found a list of games compatible with MAME .84 at Xbox-scene. as for your list.
raiden fighters2-you need the rom raiden fighters 2(2000)
cotton-dosent work as it is an fd-encrtypted game and there are no bootleg roms of this game.play the sharp x68000 version of this game on x68000x or ps1 version on pcsxbox.
cotton2-saturn based stv board game dont waste your time wont work.
cyvern -works just fine, you are probably missing the skns bios for the hardware.
mars matrix-plays fine
progear-plays fine, all cps2 games work on coinops reignite.
other games you should try
vasara1 and 2
change air blade
storm blade
darius gaiden
darius1and 2-if you play these games on mame the screen is usually long and thin because of the original arcade games screen, well this has now been fixed and plays them full screen along with, ninja warriors, rastan 3.....
salamander2
gradius1,2and3
rtype1,2and leo
strikers 19451,2and3
gunbird1and2
dragon blaze...

Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
Thanks for the help. I'll have to look for that Cotton PS1 game. That's probably my favorite cute-em-up series.
I'm going to try and upload a bunch more shmups now.
I have a quick question: when I ran Auto Installer Deluxe, I just installed everything - all apps and emulators. I was under the impression that the Xbox HDD was a bit bigger than it was. I deleted all the emulators I didn't want, so now I have about 2.5 GB open for future MAME games. I'm just wondering, is it safe to delete most of the Applications that were installed as well? I just want to make sure I don't delete something that's crucial to the softmod, but most of them just seem like programs for FTP or cosmetic stuff. I don't really have any plans to use Xbox Media Center and that thing took up like half a gig.

fba-xx plays batrider and the cps2 games very well.
is there a way to unlock the guest characters in batrider?
When I enter the dip switches it only allows me to unlock the stage edit.

yes there is,im geussing you dont have a cheat file for fbaxxx.if not download this unrar it and put it in your fbaxxx folder.Exe wrote:fba-xx plays batrider and the cps2 games very well.

if there is a folder called cheats already in your fbaxxx folder just delete and put in this one.there is cheats for most of the games including progear.but not the neogeo games asyou can use cheats for neogeo games by turning on the universal bios option in the options in fbaxx.
to use cheats go into your options on the main screen and go to emulator settings and turn on cheats.when done play a game and click down on the right thumbstick, this should bring up the ingame menu and you should see the cheats option there and you can choose what you wish.
Re: shmups on a modded xbox (the old one)
I downloaded an old Mame catver.ini and sorted out the Vertical shooters for CoinOPS. Here's what I was able to extract from the Big Ass Emulator Disc 3a (Mame DVD). I assumed it was a complete set. There's actually quite a bit missing, probably due to size constraints. I'm guessing that the titles that run on Final Burn were included on that DVD instead.
