Wii shmups?

Post by keropi »

Hiya!

I just recently found that Castle Shikigami III exists on Wii, I have tried it and was pleased with it  , but naturally this arises my next question: what other shmups are there on the Wii??? I have Gradius Rebirth too , but is there a list somewhere? I tried searching here but the results were thousands
thanks for any pointers! :D

With Shiki III you already own the most important shmup on the Wii.
Noteworthy other shmups:
Milestone / Ultimate Shooting Collection (containing Karous, Radirgy and Chaos Field)
Illvelo (also Milestone, coming to the US in a horrendous box soon)
Blast Works (has 4 shooters from Kenta Cho as a bonus, core game is crap IMO)
-thats it.

There ARE some other ones... but trust me, you don't want to play them.

Metal Slug Anthology isn't too bad but it may also be worth getting some Game Cube games like Chaos Field and Ikaruga if you don't own them already on other consoles.

Actually, I own a Saturn with lotta shooters on it, and a wii. Believe it or not, but I play more shooters on the wii than on the Saturn !
Why, the wii (cracked, herm) gives free access to a whole lot of shooters for older consoles, plus those mentionned by Jockel.

Moreover, the impossibility to tate my TV for the moments make those arcade-ports on the saturn look really bad in Yoko mode. Garegga and Batsugun are really hard to handle this way for instance. By opposition, shooters available on the wii, are console shooters, thus meant to be played horizontally.

Anyway, sum up what I say : dont forget the emulation possibilities of the wii !

This emulated stuff can hardly be called a Wii shmup ;)
But yeah, emulation on Wii rules.

Star Soldier gamecube is a blast as I heard.
However, I still dont know if it would boot on my Wii (PAL) with Gecko OS or stuff like this...

I rather enjoy Star Soldier R, even if it isn't anything more than a 2 level high-score contest. If your definition extends to arena-shooters, then Geometry Wars Galaxies is very awesome. I think I prefer the Wii control setup to the Xbox one, though it does take some getting used to. And yeah, Star Soldier Gamecube is pretty sweet too.

Food for thought, in addition to the titles already listed :D

Gleylancer, MUSHA, and Life Force are on the VC, to name a few.

Seconded. Worth buying a dual-analog Wii controller for this. Fun arena shmup that should have been ported to HD systems.

Heh, I can't do the dual stick setup for this game. I just get way more accuracy out of the Wiimote!

I skipped Chaos Field on 'Cube and got the collection for Wii instead. Its a fun game but Radirgy and Karous make it worth buying.

Ikaruga on GC is excellent, worth buying if you don't already have it. The only downside is the GC controller. The little D-pad is not very good for a main input and analog sticks just don't cut it in a digitally controlled game.

You know for what it's worth, the port of Chaos Field on the collection isn't so hot. Sound effects too loud, there's only one difficulty mode (despite being able to select others), and it lacks the nice Original mode found in the Gamecube version.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Gradius Rebirth is pretty awesome, but its no Gradius Gaiden (which is, IMO, easily the bets in the series).

Surprisingly, I found Chaos Field the most fun out of the three. Karous and Radio Allergy are just unfair. At least skill can make Chaos Field survivable.
