Word, I LOVE Driftout, although I think it got ports, under different names, to other systems.Neon wrote:Yeah, Neo Driftout was my first thought as well.
If it's half as good this will be fucking sweet.
The only port Neo Driftout had was on the Neo-Geo CD (no AES release). The CD version cost around $100.dave4shmups wrote:Word, I LOVE Driftout, although I think it got ports, under different names, to other systems.Neon wrote:Yeah, Neo Driftout was my first thought as well.

OT, I've never played the original GTA, but I'd like to-is it kind of like Spyhuter; in terms of firing weapons from your car, can you get out of the car, etc?
just so you know both the original GTA and GTA2 are available as free downloads right here: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/dave4shmups wrote:OT, I've never played the original GTA, but I'd like to-is it kind of like Spyhuter; in terms of firing weapons from your car, can you get out of the car, etc?
Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks for the heads-up, I might check those out.lowemark wrote:just so you know both the original GTA and GTA2 are available as free downloads right here: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/
Ha ha. Even illegally, it's still not considered freeware.Stormwatch wrote:(legally, at least)
Thanks for your support!icepick wrote:I'll probably be buying Rush Rush Rally Racing as well; I liked Beats of Rage, have been looking forward to Age of the Beast, and I feel like this R4 is Senile Team's "Doki Doki Idol Starseeker" (G.rev) -- A quick, fun game to bring in some funds to help the production of their big title. Maybe I'm wrong and it's totally rude of me to mentally assign the game to that second purpose, but it's how I feel and on top of how fun the game looks, if my buying it will help Senile Team out, then by all means.
OMG!! is this true? I have this laying aroundThe CD version cost around $100
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
It's true.Strider77 wrote:OMG!! is this true? I have this laying aroundThe CD version cost around $100
This game was developed over a few years and only until now will the developers see any profit. It was originally designed for a contest several years ago and instead of it being scrapped, it was decided that without any quick returns it was to be completed as a full commercial game.Elixir wrote:I like how they're only releasing their newsgrounds-like quality on the Dreamcast to gain attention. So what warrants this game being released on the Dreamcast over being released as an Indie title on XBL, or as an XBLA game? Why isn't it going to the PSN store and being a PS3 game? Why isn't it DSiware? Why isn't it Wiiware? My point is, I don't see any purpose in releasing a full priced retail Dreamcast title in 2009. In fact, they would probably make more profit if they released it on something that most people today still own.Limbrooke wrote:This game was developed over a few years and only until now will the developers see any profit. While it doesn't look outstanding I believe that's the point. It is 2D after all and recognizing that it's not the first game like this (GTA, Thrash Rally, etc..) there would obviously be some people who are interested in it from an actual fun factor. I don't expect you to change your stance but I among others who are quite interested in this title don't appreciate your downcast comments. Speaking about a company who previously released Beats of Rage for free that they're cashing in on a commercial game is bullshit. This game could've easily been the same but you gotta eat sometime too right?
Fair points indeed, but there is all the (expensive) approval processes and quality controls and such (although there's XBL Community Games of course).Elixir wrote:

It was originally developed for the Dreamcast several years ago and the development was completed for Dreamcast. Makes sense to me. Also, 15 Euros is hardly full priced and as mentioned profit really isn't the name of the game here given SenileTeams track record. Beats of Rage is a good game, especially one made for free and released for free. R4 again was made without payroll and since it's been taken on as a larger project from the canned game contest (see Lik-Sang) it makes sense that they could get some compensation back.Elixir wrote:So what warrants this game being released on the Dreamcast over being released as an Indie title on XBL, or as an XBLA game? Even if they've released games in the past for free (I know virtually nothing about their history), it seems bad for business. The game being in a contest and not being scrapped, then being made commercially warrants a "daw, that's cute" but everything released on the Dreamcast since about 2005 has been mediocre or you can just tell it's a low budget game. I mean I'm not hauling my DC out just to play this, but if it was on XBLA or PSN I might download the demo. Releasing it specifically for the DC just makes it less accessible. That's the difference.
The game started in development on Dreamcast and rather than switching all the code, it was finished for use on the Dreamcast. I do think sentiments about lack of current hardware seeing any light but given the developers don't work on a budget per se it makes sense to continue development for a system that requires little capital towards developing and publishing commercial titles.spadgy wrote:Also, there's the quite obvious fact that one of the motivations here is the labour of love. Sure, I'm guessing here, but surely these developers are doing this for the love of making a game for the Dreamcast?
