Which forthcoming shmups are at the top of your list?

Post by professor ganson »

I may be forgetting something, but at least the following are on their way:

Mushihimesama (PS2)
Sigma Star Saga (GBA)
Nanostray (DS)
La Petite Princesse (PS2)
Chaos Field (GCN)
Xexex (PS2)
Raiden III (PS2)

And we might add:

Xyanide (XBOX)
Sengoku Cannon (PSP)

I'm curious: Which are you looking forward to most and why?

Mushihimesama (PS2)
La Petite Princesse (PS2)
Chaos Field (US GCN)
Xexex (PS2)
Raiden III (PS2)

I wouldn't say they're at the top of my list so much as they're simply ones that I would like to play and add to my collection.

Here are mine:

I'm expecting a package from play-asia soon and I'll use my coupon code to buy:

Mushihime-sama (PS2)
Sengoku Cannon (PSP)
Star Soldier (PSP)

Later on I'll be getting:
Nanostray (DS)
Raiden III (PS2)
Shikigami no shiro III (PS2)

I'll probably catch up and get Shikigami no shiro I for PS2 also since Mobile Light Force 2 makes me sick. Either that or I'll massively splurge for a G-Net motherboard and the Shiki cartridge.

Of those listed, I'll probably end up getting Chaos Field and Nanostray (although I don't have high expectations for it), and skipping the rest since I don't have a PS2 and don't plan to ever get one. Besides that, I've still got catching up on other stuff to do (Saturn, and a couple of the newer DC releases.)

I am most excited about:

Sengoku Cannon (PSP)

Because if it is good, I can just import it and play it on my PSP without any hassle.

After that, I am excited about:

Mushihimesama (PS2)

because I might be buying a JP PS2 from a friend of mine, in which case I will buy this and ESPGaluda as my first two games.

oh and (duh) I am really excited about Chaos Field getting a USA release because I love my Gamecube and I enjoyed playing the game on a friend's dreamcast. I'm not as stoked about it as I am about a new Psikyo-related or Cave developed game, but I'll probably end up buying it sooner, just for economic reasons.

Mushi and Petite Princesse are the ones I'm most eager to try, followed by the Taito Collections.

Well, the first thing I need to do is either buy a Japanese PS2, or have mine modded. Then I'll be getting all the recently released, and forthcoming PS2 imports.

But right now, the only ones I'm really itching to play are 'Nanostray' for the DS, and 'Sengoku Cannon' for the PSP. The screens I've seen for 'Nanostray' look damn good for a handheld. It kinda reminds me a little of Chaos Field (the bullets mainly). I'll probably buy it the day it comes out.

I also still need to get a copy of 'Trizeal'.

1)Mushihime-sama hands down. The beautifully drawn bugs and charming heroine in a swarm of endless pink bullets and lazers...it just looks amazing. Have been hoping for a home port since last summer when we first saw pictures.

2 (and since I haven't played it yet...) DDP DOJ when it arrives in the mail tomorrow or next week. :)

3)Ibara - Raizing style shmup design returns courtesy of Cave, heck yeah!

4)Raiden III

5)Under Defeat - GRev gives us some old school helicopter action, sounds good to me.

Senko no Ronde- I think Sega's given up on Virutal On. I can feel its spirit in G.Rev's game. The legend will never die, I suppose.

Gradius V- I feel the need to kick the PS2 in my house for not being able to read my copy anymore, but since it's my friend's, I have to refrain from doing so.

Air Rade ~Air~- I don't know if anyone here considers that a shmup, but it's a pretty interesting game nontheless. This final version is supposed to improve the the graphics, enemy patterns/bosses, and have two-player simultaneous support.

I'll buy a lot of em. The fact that there are enough shmups coming out for us to have a topic like this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :D

Well, number 1 would definately be Ibara-if it ever get's a PS2 port, that is. :(

Other then that, I'm REALLY looking forward to Xyanide, Raiden 3, Mushihimesama, Nanostray, and Shiki 3.

Assuming, Homura. The rest look nice, but more of the same. Homura looks to be something I like, but different. Shiki 3 would also be nice and probably some incidental shooters in collection packs.

raiden 3 and ibara i wish i could try the most.

then mushi, homura seems nice. and of course all thesee ps2 releases im curious of how they will turn out.

tho the sudden interest in xexex surprises me, i tried the japanese version in mame some months ago, and while it doesnt match the US version in terms of stupidity, i remember dying more than in arcade GIII...

How can you speak of different, then ignore Senko No Ronde?

I've decided that's a little too different. Shooters are a one player sport. Co-op is OK, no interest in vs.

I'll add in that HEY! in Akiba (the place where most shmup location tests take place and many of Arcadia's best play) doesn't put Senko no Ronde on the shmup floor either - they put it on the fighting game floor. After playing it, I concur that it's not a shmup. It plays more like Virtual On...
