Raystorm HD - Xbox Live Arcade & PSN

Post by Kron »

Taito seem to be pretty busy with the Live Arcade games lately and a version of Raystorm named Raystorm HD has just gone up on partnernet so expect to see it sometime in the future.

It won't be just a ROM. That's why Cave's games had to go the retail route. MS wouldn't approve straight ports for better or worse.

This sounds interesting, especially considering that the games 3D looked pretty ugly. The graphics are obviously going to be revamped as they put HD in the title. I hope they put rayforce maybe as a direct port in the game as well, I'd love to play that on my 360 as well.

Yoshi: check out Gunstar Heroes and the other "sega classics" titles on XBLA

edit: I've bought the other games Taito has ported to XBLA and they're very high quality imo, this port sounds promising in that sense too :)

Yeah, I think Sega managed to get a package deal to get all of those through together.

I hope they put in a feature to enable the original graphics too ala R-Type Dimensions. Playstation 1 quality polygons are a massive nostalgia bomb for me.

While that would be cool, we should be thankful that more shooters are hitting xbla. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come... ?

Awesome. Seeing the trippy effects and space war backgrounds in HD will be quite the eyecandy piece.

What I'd love to see too is an upgraded version of Raycrisis. In both cases it would be pretty easy to do: just add texture filtering, perspective correction, make the 3D graphics run in high res... and voila, you have much better looking games!

I hope they had gotten rid of the annoying auto-center feature.

I'm guessing that "extra mode" is some sort of more manic mode?

Why does button "A" cancel, and button "B" is OK?

If the graphics are just "straightened out", i'm in. I was a fan of this game, but got rid of it mainly because it looks so bad now. This is a pleasant surprise.

WOW! The R-gray looks awesome with a decent polycount!

I'm already sold, couldn't care less if the game's shit - the graphics alone are worth a purchase for me(if the price is decent that is). I mean they couldn't possibly make the game totally unplayable am I right?
There's always the original version for serious play. :P

Looks excellent - Raystorm was truly a game that looked good in spite of the hardware it ran on, nice to see its stage designs done some justice. I'd love to see how the more cinematic ones look, like the stage 3 high-speed river flyover, stage 5 asteroid dogfight, and especially the iconic stage 4 battleship fleet. The last stage could be off the fucking hook too.

edit: stage 5 asteroids, I mean.

I heard this may be on Wiiware as well?

Also Extra Mode may be the PSX extra mode.

i may end up buying it, but i dont see anything special from the pix. i have this one on the PSP, and love it and all, but again, i dont see anything special on this remake.

if they pack a 2x1 for it, THAT'd be a no brainer then.

According to those images, the game is now in 16x9 (unless they went with invisible edges like in XBLA MVC2). I can imagine this doing some really weird shit with the game balance.

uh oh. I didn't even think about that - I really hope they have just extended the background and have invisible edges like you mentioned, which in turn would also explain why there's such a big HUD for a game at such high resolution. Then again invisible edges including Raystorm's already whacky movements AND auto centering could make the "steering experience" more awkward than it already was. :?

Because A and B are traditionally the other way around on Japanese control pads? In much the same way as O confirms and X cancels in Japanese Playstation games, but it's the other way around in the western versions.

Thank god there's no mention of Backbone next to the Taito copyright text. Hopefully this is an in house effort.

Err, it's standard to use A for confirm and B for cancel on all 360 games worldwide. It's not a PlayStation.
