I just traded for an MVS and some games and I had a few questions...

Question the First: I've got a New Astro City and I need to rotate the monitor. Can anyone explain how to rotate it or point me to an explanation?

Question the Second: How do regions work on the games? Is it just a dispwitch setting for English/Japanese or do you need a mod for the motherboard or what?

Question the Third: My cab only has three of the six buttons wired. That's not an issue right now but I'd like to get some fighting games and am curious about wiring the fourth button in. Any help?

Any help is appreciated.

b) Region is determined by motherboard region, carts are region free.

3. Connect pin 25 on both sides from the JAMMA harness to the buttons on either side (just use disconnects, at least on the buttons side):

You probably also want to set up the buttons so that they're in an A-B-C-D manner (with A to the leftmost). Or maybe:
A-C
B-D
which works for KOF games but not some other fighters.

Thats what I thought. I knew there was room on the JAMMA harness for a fourth button, I just didn't know if that was how the one slot Neo's were wired. Where can I buy wiring and stuff for that?

I'm mostly interested in the Smaurai Shodown games, 4 in particular. In that case...

is better I find for slugs and fighters, but yeah, I prefer a 4 button neo layout any damn day of the week.

to rotate the monitor simply remove the hood(top bit of the cab)

undo the bolts holding in the monitor...you will probably want to unhook the molex connector to the monitor and the remote board too just so they dont snag on anything

now if you are a bigger guy you can do this by yourself....grab the metal mounting brackets attached to the monitor(there are little cutouts perfect for hand grips...just careful not to let your hand slide or it will gash you up pretty good) and lift it carefully off the knobs it mounts on.....back it out just enough so you have clearance to turn it...once aligned again just pop it back on the knobs and bolt it all back in....re-connect the main cable and remote board and throw the top of the cab back on once you have rotated the bezel(its pretty simple)

if you doubt your strength just do it with another person and each take a side.....but if i can do it by myself you probably can too....if i recall from your pics you are bigger than me

just be careful and take your time....its easy

you will need to degauss it afterwards with the degauss button on the powersupply

Apparently, laying the astro on its back whilst rotating the monitor is the best way. Since the weight is all below you instead of beside you. sounds logical. My first attempt is coming up in a week or two, when I have the balls to do it.

i dunno....i find it easier to handle haevy stuff when i am standing straight up...if you do it with the cab lying down you will be bent over lifting it.....

and you dont need to completely take the monitor out of the cab to rotate it...like i said, once its clear of the mounting posts you can just turn it in the cab and then just pop it back on the posts

i guess do it however seems more comfortable for you

That's actually the standard Asian Neo Geo format (when not the default

), hence why the NGCD pads were set up this way.

As far as wires, just search for Jamma harness wiring (maybe just Jamma harness) and you'll find what you need.

That wasn't me. I painted my egret 1 red, yellow, and blue with flame shaped inserts to tilt up the monitor though

Removing the CP section entirely would make rotating it upright much easier. It's stretching over the CP carrying that weight (a 29" monitor is >50% of my body weight) that's difficult.

That said, when rotating a Windy I've laid the cab on it's back. It's relatively straightforward, but I found I had to remove the monitor surround completely in order to be able to stand at the best place to drop it back in.

This is definitely the way to go if you need to rotate it by yourself. With the monitor that close to the ground you're using your leg strength instead of your arm strength to lift it. Those of you who've met me know that I'm not exactly a big muscular guy, so if I can rotate it by myself this way then anyone can.

I just did this today, mentioned how I did it in another thread.

If your only buying one cabinet, don't buy a new astro city. Its a pain in the ass to rotate with numerous bolts, CP, molex connectors and wires to take off/disconnect. Not to mention its quite heavy. The result of me doing it myself was rewarding however and it looks great right now.

i should make a video of how i do it.....all you have to disconnect is the speaker molex when you remove the hood.....and i only use the corner screws for the bezel.....

i can do the rotate and have the cab back together in about 5 minutes by myself.....and i dont have to lie down the cab.....

its easier than you guys seem to think....and personally, i find it easier to do it by myself than with another person

Thanks for the tips. I found a pdf of the manual on my computer and it has a pretty good explanation of how to do it. I Think I've heard about the laying the cab on its back trick before, I think it was Dave K. that said that's how he's been doing it. I'm going to try doing it in a day or two. I'll have to document it on my blog. I'm sure I'll screw something up. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can buy wiring for the fourth button?

This. I just got rotated mine. Got the front off and when I went to flip the bezel one of the screws was stripped. I had to go and buy a set of vice grips to get the screw out. Then when I went to lie it down on its back I started to hear a cracking noise, panicked, lifted the cab up and heard something metal fall inside. I thought I had seriously fucked something up. Turns out I forgot to remove the instruction inlay stuff from the CP and thats what fell. Still have no idea what made that cracking noise. I wound up laying a bunch of pillows and blankes down under the cab when I laid it down and it worked great, kept the monitor nice and level.... then I cut myself trying to get one of the nuts off the monitor mount. Someone put some serious strength on that one cause that shit would not come off. Also, monitors are fucking heavy. But now it's done and I'm putting it back together and I'm glad I just went and did it myself. It's a learning experience. Now I know this is some shit I don't want to do very often.
