Do you guys know Develop Magazine?

Post by spadgy »

I work at a print magazine called Develop magazine - obviously it's for the development industry worldwide.

The website is here, and it might be of use to you guys. Keep checking the features section actually, as everything from the print version of the mag eventually goes there, and there's all sorts of stuff of use. Anti-Aliasing features, for example...

We get some real experts to write for us too. Will Wright, Marc Rein and the like....

Just pimpin' out me and my workmate's efforts!

That's pretty damn cool.
It seems to be more oriented towards professionals, but i'm sure us bedroom coders can find some useful stuff there too.

It is read by most professionals, but there's always stuff of interest to the bedroom crew.

Also, you can always download the whole edition of the latest print edition for free as a PDF from the home page. You have to register for the site, but that's pretty simple...

For now we have all the old issues on issuu as viewable docs, but we're really close to a new site launch where old issues will be available as PDFs.

All the main features are on the website as well...

I'm not quite sure how I would, as I'm just a humble staff writer. Should just be a week or two till the new website is sorted though, and then they're all available as PDFs. I'll think what I can do in the meantime...

I'm just a staff writer. Props go to my editor and dept-editor for the quality (plus all our external contributors!).

Kaspal - I'll see what I can do, but it's finding the time when there's so much on at work...

Pfft ... any part of develop deserves a decent pat on the back.

Although its a fine publication, its strange to see Edge so often mentioned when someone asks about a more informed mag with industry reach... Edge is great, and does have some depth, but it is still essentially a more commerce/consumer orientated magazine.

Real interested on that site update ^^

Let the pimping continue :)

once again, thank you.

thing is, the more i try to go and read the magazine online, the more i get frustrated by trying. Evrytime i go there, the Browser eats up the processor resources, and i have to shut it down... what page of the magazine that is, is totally random... the problem seems to be the Flash pluggin (it happens to some extent in some other flash heavy websites)... and thats why i preffer the PDFs, since Foxit Reader dont give me headaches.

Good news Kaspal.

If you go here, you can follow the 'Previous Editions' date links to download the PDFs of previous issues back as far as 2007. Thats about 25 issues for you for now, and the older stuff is out of date really.

thank you man!... really.

is just that i have this problem with Firefox and Flash10, that sometimes for some odd reason, the browser just eats up all available memory and locks up... i have to force a termination with the task manager. and it only happens with flash heavy pages.

so, yeah, i'll be downloading all those PDFs. thank you man.

Edge, and particular Edge online, tend to target the 'pro-sumer' (Half way between the consumer that reads Official PlayStation maga and the professional in the industry. We target the professional a lot more. Edge is certainly closee to us in tone an readership than other mags though.

The comments on our sites can be good discussions, as we do get the likes of Jon Hare, Peter Molyneux and the like join in...
