DUX control method survey.
DUX control method survey.
To the people who play DUX, I'd like to now what controlling method you prefer while playing the game. So probably there are things to improve with the TBA revision disc like custom controls etc. Please also note there's a distinct between d-pad and analog stick, which is pretty important.
On this poll it doesn't matter if you like or dislike the game, your vote is welcome in any case.

I'm using my PS2 Hori Real Arcade Stick with PS2->DC Adapter.

As long as they can be customized (Ikaruga lets you set any button function on any button), I am happy. Nothing like shooting down aliens with the triggers.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Just let the player customize the buttons as they see fit, and treat the analog stick as a digital one (i.e, you should always move at a fixed speed). You can't go wrong by doing that.

Re: DUX control method survey.
I would have used my Hori stick for ps2 with a DC adapter, but the impossibility to map the controls made me play with a ps2 pad instead.
Re: DUX control method survey.
Custom controls are a sure thing with the revision disc, but I'm unsure about allowing analog stick controls and I'm curious about how many people use a arcade stick. I mean, maybe I disable analog controls on the pad, because I consider it as inaccurate for shooters. Serious shooter players use either d-pad or a arcade stick anyway, so they don't need it. But casual players may use the analog stick by default and then they are curious why the controls are slightly messed up.
Do you think its fair to disable analog controls in favor of the d-pad?

Good way of letting people configure buttons: Pressing a button for an action, making that button turn into that action.
Bad way of letting people configure buttons: Forcing people to assign buttons to moves.

I do know a few people who basically ignore there's a digital pad there. People who play TETRIS on the analog stick.
Of course, those are "casual" gamers who probably will never play a shmup on their lives unless I introduce it to them.
I don't think anyone will complain if the analog stick isn't supported. But it's always nice to have the option.

I quess I will allow customs controls, so the player can assign every move to every button w/o any restriction or forcements. The analog stick stays as it is.
Thanks for the votes.

Since no specific control method offers any (unfair) advantage over the others,
I can't see why people shouldn't be allowed to customize the way they prefer.
I sure know the shooting and probe launching buttons will be reassigned by me as they feel unnatural to me on default.
Btw, awkward request... would it be possible to also integrate support for a (the DC) keyboard???
I still use it a lot for "quake 3" and "Typing of the Dead" and since I grew up playing shmups with keyboards, I'd love to have this option.
I don't know if this would require much effort, but if not... you'd be the only one supporting it afaik and thus make my day!
It's also possibly my only hope of ever getting decent at this game, or Last Hope for that matter.

The one way to change my mind on this is showing me there's enough demand for that kind of control method. And next I get a fishing controller request...
