600 Yen

Worth 600 yen for the terrible intro alone ! ;)

Wow, that's really surprising. I thought this to be a title that would never be re-released 'cause it's from a small, unknown developer and all that. Nice to see people won't have to pay through the nose to play it (once or twice before clearing it) anymore.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

<oops , sorry about the pic size>

yup, the PSN Archive stuff for Japan has been a little weird in terms of what gets released, but the Shmups side of things has been very well represented.

600 yen is a far cry from the 18k or so it's risen to in Tokyo game stores.

Awesome. Thanks for providing that link-- I couldn't find the thread on my own. I will have to give this a try this summer.

Aww, the value of my not-really-worth-it-but-still-kinda-fun-to-have game is going to change. Maybe. Not like anyone except hard-core collectors would pay for it anyways.

It's definitely worth the yen for the laughable intro.

i don't know if either 1) someone has been toying with my tv set up 2) my failing memory is decieving me but...

i'm sure the colours look a damn sight different to usual. Like everything has been hypercoloured.

I remember the enemies having a browny "Amiga" game quality to them, similar the ship. But now it looks super vibrant.

Hmmm - i backed up the original to Popstation, might run on same tv to see whether i'm going nuts or not.

Wait, I thought non-Japanese credit cards won't work in the Japanese store?

Ugh, I have $6 left on my US account that I need to waste on something. I wish this was out in the US. There's literally NOTHING to buy on it, apart from a few shitty R-Type games.

I definitely hope so, as I am not planning to buy a PS3 for the moment. However, this game is still on my PS "must-havë" list. Ever ...

Along with Philosoma, Gaiaseed on the PSx is one of those shmups I just pick up cos it's fun and really, really pretty.
It's also undemanding, at least at the level I play it at

I used to have this but eventually sold it off. Very pretty game for the time, but it has a Halo-style regenerating shield. Super simple game that just doesn't have any real hooks.

No wrong.

Wii works, I just bought a couple games.

PS3, that it be US, Asian or whatever it works.

Xbox360 stopped working since 2008, the last time I managed to buy something was around summer 2008 on a jap account.

Does the intro/title screen flicker on the original like it does on this download? If not, then FUCK YOU SONY - SORT YOUR FUCKING PS1 EMULATION OUT YOU INCOMPETENT BUNCH OF PRICKS.

Given how much they could be offering for download on this service, in its current state it's being completely wasted. They really need to pull their finger out and get stuff like Gradius Gaiden, Zanac x Zanac, Salamander Deluxe Pack and Harmful Park up there. Honestly, even when it's money for old rope they can't get it right.

Sony blocks if the issuer of your card doesn't match the region of the PSN store. My friend across the street has to has to use my CC for US stuff. Reverse holds true as well.

Are you serious? What do you think the demand is for the games you mentioned? They can put Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and Resident Evil games up there and sell hundreds of thousands of downloads. Maybe you should be happy that there's any shmups being released.

I'd be happy if the emulator wasn't broken. Would you be happy if you bought anything brand new only to get it home to find it was broken? Of course you wouldn't. Exactly the same senario here.

Someone at Assembler said they downlloaded a UK PS1 game on their JPN PS3 and it was region locked. Anyone have a comment on this? I've never tried a PS1 game on my PS3, so can't say.

Is he using an SD TV? NTSC PS3s don't have any PAL 50Hz settings when using an SD TV, so you wouldn't be able to play them on an NTSC model.

I have a PAL launch 60GB system and NTSC PS1 games work like a charm.
As for the other way around, might be what bcass mentioned but that should still give you some kind of picture, I think.

Yep, you can run NTSC PSN PS1 download games on a PAL machine if your TV supports 60Hz (but you can't play NTSC PS1 discs on it). PAL PS3s can output 50Hz and 60Hz, but NTSC PS3s can not output a PAL signal in SD. It's possible an NTSC machine would display an error if you tried to run a PAL PS1 PSN game. That may have been the error message the guy on the Assembler forums saw.

Yes wrong. I'm 100% certain that all stores are locked now. Nothing works apart from using Xbox Gold memberships on a foreign account, as those have no region locking. What, did you think I would seriously confirm this without checking.

So does this mean that American PS1 titles downloaded from the US store will work on a Japanese PS3 because they're both NTSC?

Yes, that will work fine, and vice-versa.

One note of warning: I've had problems with mixing and matching PAL and NTSC-J PS1 download games on my NTSC-J PS3.

Japanese PS1 games were working fine. Then I tried to download some PAL games that I already had on my PSN account as I'd downloaded them to PSP, but they wouldn't play - some message about how the game didn't support the current console resolution, or something, which came up regardless of the res I had the console displaying at. Deleted the PAL games and my NTSC-J games didn't work any longer, either - something along the lines of "cannot find valid licence info". Deleted the NTSC-J ones and downloaded them again, at which point they started working once more.

Never have figured out what was going on and I've not wanted to test it out a second time, thanks to Sony's PSN tactic of only allowing you five downloads of any one piece of software before they charge you for it again. A friend with the same hardware setup as me says that he's had no such problems, but it's probably best to be aware of it anyway.
