Radiant Silvergun price

Post by G »

i was just wondering what the original retail price of Radiant Silvergun was when it was first released and how the price got so high? did it reach that height almost immediately after release or did it take a year or months?

Are you asking about the Sega Saturn RSG price or the later Sega Titan ST-V cartridge release of the same name? ^_~

It starting slowly going up late 1999, early 2000. I remember selling mine on ebay for $80 sometime in 2000. Most of the import shops carried it for around $60 when it first game out.

Like many games, it was released at standard price and rose after it went out of print. If memory serves, the original print was relatively small, and it was never reprinted, hence the large price nowadays.

Ahh, I remember that. That was for a very, very brief period though. I bought a Saturn import game (don't remember which one), Burning Rangers, Shining Force III, and Panzer Dragoon Saga all at once one day. Good old days indeed.

Released 1998.07.23 for the actual retail price of 5800 yen. That was probably somewhere around $48-$52 USD at the time, as the yen was at all time lows against the dollar around the spring of that year. I remember b/c I was paying back college loans in USD and earning yen.

So how long was EB carrying import games? I'm guessing up until sometime before the PS2 was released.

Couldn't have been cheap. How much did you have to pay for each?

I believe the import title was $60 and the other three were $50 each, so just over $200.

They probably tried the game in an emulator before coming to that price.

I went to a Bay Area based Electronics Boutique when they used to carry those Japanese Sega Saturn import titles like Thunder Force V...the price tag on it was at a whopping $79.99 USD and another $19.99 USD for an ST-Key to be able to play it properly on an USA region Saturn gaming console back in the day. ^_~

Some stuff should just be left as is and maintain it's legacy.
I don't fancy RSG too much but appreciate the legacy for all it's worth.

Nice interview indeed.
Thanks for the translation! :)
