A work of heart: 2nd impact

Post by Skykid »

NOTE:
This is my thread, I'm posting it because I got a nice ass poster made up and one that I wanted forever but couldn't get - because it didn't exist. Until now.
If it's okay with everyone, I'd just like to keep it simple: No arguing, bitching, belittling. Just a fucking poster for chrissakes (and a darn good one.)
(Reference: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=26716)

Thanks.

I'll be damned if this doesn't deserve some recognition.
I've been on excellent terms with Maxchainsplendid ever since I picked up his RSG ST-V set about a year back.
He's a great chap with a serious talent in illustrator, and a printer the size of which I can only begin to imagine.

Cut a long story short, I sent him a little jpg of some of my favourite box art recently, and told him I had always dreamed of having a poster of it (in fact, I even contacted Nintendo and Capcom on release to try and get one, to no avail - true story).
The same evening he sends me back a PSD of the finished, full size thing, and a pic of the finished article. Now that's some fast work!

And now, here it is framed up in my place (a bit hastily, needs mounting and managed to crack the bloody perspex in the process of changing it out) and I really, really loves it:

Even though this RE4 image lends itself well to enlargement, I know how tough it is to get a nice resolution, even with illustrator - and it's the professionalism of the finished product that really impresses me.

Sean's website is here if you want to browse his work or contact him

Worth every penny - I'm brainstorming more ideas already. [/img]

Ain't it a nice poster? Let's discuss it's niceness in a nice way!

PEACE AND LOVE. :D

Couldn't it be a bit better...just a little? :P

European RE4 box art is pretty dang classy, I have to admit. I got the crappy tin GameStop LE box myself - that wouldn't do for a poster.

Surprising isn't it? It's one of my all time favourite box arts, loved the composition from the minute I laid eyes on it.
I had a JP cube though and I was pissed when I saw the art for my US copy - even more surprised at how boring the JP cover was, considering the strength of the title.

EU cover art = win. Didn't think I'd ever say that. :)

I think the Australian (maybe EU as well?) cover for REmake was along similar lines, but obviously not the same composition.

I never really did get this black / red composition until looking at this picture here - guess I liked the expansive colors or something heh

Can you link a pic to the AU Remake?

I do a bit of art n' graphic design work from time to time, and this RE4 image really appealed to my tastes.
Of course I love much of the amazing JP game art (Nexzr is another fave) but above all the beautifully designed manga style ones, I consider unique ones like this RE4 design to something special cos they don't turn up often.

I really dislike the re-design black and white Wii cover though. It's well designed, but too bright, and has lost the atmosphere:

Will he take just anyone's commission? I read that Alan debacle and it was only $115  for all those posters.

Those were high quality, and I sure as hell wouldn't mind having a nice Progear poster.

Sean (MCS) is a superhero. I had a superb transaction with him and I hope everything gets sorted out in the end. I've sent more than a few customers his way- his stuff really is the best you can get like this right now I think.

I like it, I really like it -- EXCEPT for the absolutely god awful looking number four. It just looks so out of place

I agree. A lot of light for a game you never see sunshine. How about an inverted shot?

Yeah, that would probably be a lot better.

The thing is MCS's skills have improved over the years. Personally I think they were great in the first place, but I can see Alan wasn't convinced he'd received the best standard of work.
I got a Gradius one once that wasn't quite perfect in resolution, but he's certainly conquered that issue. To boot, he's always been really honest - if something won't work out for any reason I'm sure he'd consult first.
I'd say some of the new stuff is indistinguishable from the real thing in everything but size - I don't think he does Japanese B1 (EDIT: Actually he does do B1 and much bigger too. That's one mammoth printer.)

The Sengoku Ace 2 that I got from him about a year ago is amazing quality, and judging by this RE4, his skills have only improved.

I'm pretty sure he's up for requests, so email him and ask. Then post the finished thing in here so we can see!

I'm flying one of those too in my bedroom. MCS is a very nice fella and actually tried to make me a Dracula X Chronicles poster but the print got messed up. He does nice work.
