Hi Everyone, I have recently gone crazy with shmup buying and I'm very tempted to get a eprom programmer to gain special versions or regions.
Below is my list of shmups. Some I have no answers for and some that I've already found out how to change but good to have confirmation.
Thanks in advance!!!
No Idea for the following:
Raiden DX - No idea on changing language / version. Are there any game differences between regions?
Raiden Fighters Jet - No idea on changing language / version. Are there any game differences between regions?
Batsugun - How do I get 'special version' rom. Any rom from a mame site? Instructions availabe (like which eproms are impacted)? I'm assuming special version only comes in Japanese?
Battle Garegga - Does upgrading to Japanese region version give extra characters/fighters unlocked + rank set at "zero". Or is there a special Japanese rom?
I have leads on the following, just need confirmation:
Strikers 1945 II - Switch 5, via mini links
Do Don Pachi Dai Ou Jou - Japan only?
Do Don Pachi - World of Arcades has instructions
Batrider - World of Arcades has instructions. Oxtsu also has test screen instructions which is required every boot.
How to change languages/regions on my shmups???

There is the single-layered Raiden Fighters Jet 2000 Chinese version that uses lower grade sound chips for the BGM tunes. Of course, it's recommended to get the original SP1 cart version of RFJ for it's better BGM output plus the fact that it's can output in stereo if your arcade cabinet does have built-in support for it. All the country versions of RFJ listed in Mame are what is available at your disposal. There aren't any differences in gameplay between country versions of RFJ but you will need the correct country region to play properly on said SP1 motherboard. For example, you can't play play a USA region Viper Phase 1 U.S.A. SP1 cart on a JPN region SP1 mobo...you'll need to get the country eprom changed to that of Japan to get it to run properly on a JPN SP1 mobo (or source another Japnese region Viper Phase 1 - New Version SP1 cart instead).noisuf wrote:Raiden Fighters Jet - No idea on changing language / version. You'd need the special custom Battle Garegga eprom file in order to gain access to the "No Rank" option that was created & provided free of charge by fellow shmupper zakk. There is a thread somewhere listed in the Shmups' Hardware section to d/l it for your personal use. ^_~
Cave's Dodonpachi-DOJ PCB was released only for the Japanese arcade market. and no other country version of it exists.
All the other links that you mention of are 100% proven to work regarding changing country region on your listed PCBs, noisuf. So no worries in that department. ^_~

Gameplay-wise, there are multiple differences. Pick one region set and play the others in MAME.noisuf wrote:Raiden Fighters Jet - No idea on changing language / version. Are there any game differences between regions?
The original "Feb 3 1996" romset is the 'Japan/US/Europe/Asia' original, and these regions can be switched with DIPs. There seems to be some minor differences between each of these regions.Battle Garegga - Does upgrading to Japanese region version give extra characters/fighters unlocked + rank set at "zero".
