Questions: Upscan Converters and 360 DLC
Questions: Upscan Converters and 360 DLC
Hey all
Just a few questions.
My new 32inch Samsung HDTV lags with older systems such as Sega Saturn, Playstation 2
and GameCube. I use Component, and Composite videos to play these games and they all lag slightly
even when I enable game mode. I did the guitar hero test and I couldn't tell at first but when comparing
with my Standard TV I noticed it was off quit a bit. Games like Guitar Heroes was playable but games like
Shmups weren't. GC games lag even when I use the Wii and offical Component cables.
My last resort to solving this HDTV issue is either stick with having both TVs in the room or get an upscan converter.
Because I'm soo cheap, I'd like to know what converts out there are reasonably priced that do not lag for older consoles?
I shop mainly at DX because they got good deals but am not sure which upscanners would suit me best.
Xbox 360 question regarding DLC and games on the marketplace. Ever since my 360 died on me two weeks after I purchased it (jasper chipset too)
, I've been holding off on purchasing games on the marketplace. If my 360 dies so does all the games and stuff I download with it go down the drain as well
My question is, the downloaded content I purchase off the market place, is it associated with my Xbox Live account or my console only?
Lets say my 360 dies on me and I buy a new 360, can I recover my gamertag and download it onto my new 360 or does it belongs to the broken one?
I did some reading up about this but didn't manage to get a clear answer. I was hoping some one could clear it up for me.
Thanks a bunch
Jimmy

Yes, you can recover your gamertag and purchases through XBL. Your DLC and XBL arcade games are tied partly to the gamertag and partly to the console. What this means is that you can play the games online or offline on the console they were purchased on, but you must be connected to Live for them to work on another console.
As for your TV issue, I haven't used external upscalers, but Samsung HDTVs are notoriously laggy for gaming. You say the TV is new. Is it new enough that you could return it? The internal upscaling on a Panasonic Viera or Sony Bravia is typically good enough not to require external upscalers.

I appreciate the reply. Great so your telling me, as long as I'm signed into Xbox live on any 360 console I can download and play my arcades games on there? If so then I feel very comfortable with the whole DLC purchase.Daigohji wrote:Yes, you can recover your gamertag and purchases through XBL. As for the TV, I'm still decidging on weather to bring it back or not. Just trying to find a different solution first before going through the return process.
Thanks again
get and XRGB and be amazed.... trust me it's sooooo worth it.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Get the XRGB-2 upscan convertor with the ability to have fake scanlines for completeness is the way to go. Sure, it might set you back a bit but worth every penny well spent to acquire one indeed. ^_~
You then would just need to pick up some Japanese RGB cables for your gaming consoles and you'd be all set. ^_~

Sounds temping.. Can't I use my component, composite, and S-Video cables though with the converter? I'm not too anal about picture quality as long as it looks decent and solve the main issue lag! I don't want to go through the same hassle I did before trying to get good cables for all my console.
I read that the XRGB-2 plus is Japanese so I'm not exactly sure if Japan shares the same standard cables there as they do here in North America.
oh btw how much would an XRGB-2 Plus set me back now a days and where can I pick one up?
Thanks for the reply

You can also play games purchased from another console offline if you reassign the DRM protection which links the software to the hardware. This can be done on www.xbox.com, but only once a year to prevent abuse.

For shelcoof,
If you're willing to spend upwards of $200 and up for a used XRGB-2+ variant upscan convertor, that sounds quite reasonable. I've seen some folks sell their XRGB-2 for $250 without any problems. It all relates to supply and demand, it's whatever the buyer is willing to pay for one if he or she wants it badly enough. ^_~
Scour on eBay as they are bound to pop up from time to time for sale or just post a wanted ad for one here on the Trading Section of shmups.org for one. Good luck on acquiring one, shelcoof.

Okay.. guys you convinced me to seek out an XRGB-2+ lol
Now I think 200$ would be quit a bit high but just thinking about playing my Saturn and even my old Master System on my new HD TV would be justifiable enough. Okay maybe I can't justify the purchase but I guess I want one now and 200$ is max I would spend lol.
But here is a few problems I ran into, very difficult to find on on Ebay now and if I post up a want for it, I'm sure some one would offer to sell me one at a high price.
I'll just wait it out but right now I see one posted here on ebay.

It doesn't look anything like this one here on NCSX

Can you tell me if anyone is trying to pull a fast one here on ebay?
If not then I'm going to consider placing a bid.
Thanks a bunch I appreciate all the help.
This is great

The eBay auction one is for the XRGB-2 version. The one listed on the NCSX site is the XRGB-2 Plus variant that came out a bit later after the XRGB-2.Shelcoof wrote:Okay.. guys you convinced me to seek out an XRGB-2+ lol

Here's the following short list of XRGB upscan convertors that manufacturer Micomsoft released:
XRGB (I've seen it sell for a mere $48.00 USD on ebay in brand new condition)
XRGB-2 (I've seen this one sell for $282.00+ USD in brand new condition on ebay back in late 2002.)
XRGB-2 Plus
and lastly,
XRGB-3
At some of the Japanese gaming speciality shops in Akihabara district of Japan, it was possible to buy a brand new XRGB-2 for a mere 22,500 yen price tag back in 2000.
