Do you have a dog?
Do you have a dog?
In a nutshell, my g/f always wanted one, but never could. Now that we have our own place and quite a bit of space, she decided to make the move; we're going to have a dog next month once it can leave its mother. It's a female Lab, very cute and all. Apparently it's good around kids, too.
I guess the question is.. do you have a dog? What is it? Is it hard to take care of?

I've got one of those intelligent Queensland Heeler dogs that is better known as a Aussie cattle dog. These type of dogs make some good frisbee catching dogs with their fast running and leaping through mid-air to catch 'em. It helps to train them when their young to excel at that though.^_~
And yes, they do require lots of ample space to run and roam around on. Although they're considered short-haired dogs, it is recommended that you brush off the excessive winter coat of fur during the spring/summer season. Some breeders tend to dock puppies' tails. So if you like to get a puppy or full grown dog with a stump waggling like mad, I'd suggest getting one with a tail. That way, you can easily tell if your canine pal is happy to see you. ^_~

i have a cross Minature beagle half Pug. Technicaly not a true puggle but still a little pain in the arse all the same. that said he was being really good its been hot today so i gave him a bit of ice lolly and he loved it. He is like my little brother more than anything and even though i am definitely a cat person I would not change him for the world.

I don't have dogs of my own, but my parents (who live nearby) have a pair of Beagles named Imola and Minardi (yeah, we have F1 fans in the house) that I claim as my dogs, even though I only occasionally take care of them:

In spite of their small size, Beagles tend to be surprisingly high maintenance dogs, but they're very loyal (at least when they're not getting distracted and running off after some random scent) and very friendly.

Yeah, sure we got a dog!
It's a Kooikerhondje.
REALLY adventurous kinda guy and as sweet as can be to anyone he knows/trusts.
He's probably the most loyal friend you could ever get!
Here's some pics of him from his first time at the beach...

I Really want that Tennis Ball before I go swimming again!!!!!!!

It is I...Sproetje....
With my favourite "friends" aka Robijn en Lange Jan.

Robijn is always as near to me as he can be!

Now, they were just playing around with me...

Cats...
I don't mean to insult cat owners, but have you ever dated a girl with a cat? Quite scary experiences I've had with such people. A definite no-go for me anyways, made even worse if they have many of them. Apart from rare exceptions, for people living alone with cats... something's not right.

Milano, a shelter dog; he's my family's, really. We think he was beaten as a puppy; he was terrified of my dad at first (to his bemusement; this is one of the gentlest people you could meet). Real damage case. It was actually my dad who insisted we give him some time rather than send him back to whatever awaited him. Ten years later he's completely trusting of us, but you can tell he'll always be very timid. If he's barking at dogs passing the house a "shh" silences him instantly. I only go home about once a year now, but he always remembers me.
I'm glad we kept him, but I have to admit I'd think twice about getting a shelter dog now!

And though I understand your way of thinking, I also think that you must be proud giving such a disadvantaged dog a good home.
Probably even restoring some faith in humans for him as well.
Dogs can be better `family`than humans sometimes. And they are almost always more cute than human family.................................

Definitely; I really respect my folks for sticking with him. A friend commented that he probably needed specialist help for the first few years, but living in the Cayman Islands... we'd have needed to put him on a plane to Miami. So we just waited until he decided none of us were out to get him! We'd still never leave him with anyone who didn't know his issues, but it's not a problem for us anymore.Super Laydock wrote:Cute dog.![]()

It's been nice to see him get less and less jumpy over the years. I didn't fully appreciate how much he'd accepted us until I went home after a year away. Not a day had passed as far as he was concerned. He posed for that photo very happily. :]
edit: Thanks, RGC! (was typing when you posted)
