Can someone elaborate on those regional differences? I reckon it applies to anything named "Truxton II" and anything named "達人王"?

Hope this score is valid:

RGC - 349,510 - 2 - MAME

The reason I mention it is because mame reports I'm using the Japanese ROM, but the game itself says For use in Europe only. The fook?

Isn't every region combined into one romset?

As said in the old thread (did you read it before taking over the thread?), the region setting (not "ROMset" if MAME can be trusted) being used should be specified, and each region really should have its own table (EDIT there was some bad information in these parens, gone now).

To get the Japanese version running, just change the dipswitch setting.

Apparently, then, what this means is that even players of the Japanese board should check their DIP switches and the title screen to see what they're actually playing.

The first powerup I encounter is always green. :)

But what, actually, is the point of the FFW? Other than fun, obviously.

Dadgum it, you're right. I dunno how I got it to show up as blue in Truxton II yesterday. I should play around with it some.

Please make separate tables for Europe version and Japanese version, the latter is WAY more difficult. And sorry ED, I just checked here and the first powerup in the Euro version is green too. On latter playthroughs it can change colors, but on the first credit it's always green. It's just like that item rotation table in Garegga.

An easy way to see which version you're playing is checking the title screen. Euro version shows TRUXTON II, japanese one shows a bunch of kanji.

And like I said in the other thread, all MAME-submitted scores are certainly from Europe version (that's the MAME defaults).

I figured out what's going on with the powerups - on the first play either game always starts out with green.

BUT!!!!

On subsequent plays or lives, the powerup seems to cycle to the color AFTER the last one onscreen. Don't seem to have to collect it for this to happen.

[offtopic]Is Truxton II only works in older MAME? I tried it using my MAME .126 but it doesn't work (missing rom) :( [/offtopic]

It works with the newest version better than it used to. Update your MAME ROMset.

I shall do so if scores are submitted.

And what exactly makes the Japanese version harder? Nothing seems different on stage 1, and I didn't feel like credit-feeding further.

Enemies fire more often and bullets are faster. It's hard to notice on the first stage but later on you'll definitely feel it. A cheap way to see this is to turn on invulnerability, fast-forward to the 3rd boss and fight him at full power. He fires way more often, especially his drones.

You can consider MAME scores as Europe version (I'm assuming everyone played at MAME defaults) and PCB ones as Japan version, that's enough scores for 2 tables. Here's a couple more from me:

EURO: Ruldra - 607,060 - 4 - MAME
JAPAN: Ruldra - 468,170 - 3 - MAME

EURO
Ruldra - 759,850 - 5 - MAME

Used the safe spot to skip the third boss, no-missed up to the 4th boss, and died SIX times on the same recovery point in stage 5! Argh!

At least I broke Rob's score.

Old score:

Edge - 535'280 - 3 - MAME

I like this game pretty much. Although it gets sometimes pretty frustrating, as recovering after one death can be darn hard. But then again, a lot of shmups from this era, where suffering from the Gradius syndrome. But otherwise a pretty good shmup, I think this one is Toaplan's best game.

So the rumors were true.

Japan board is added. I've put bloodf and robivy's scores on that board until further notice. I can confirm my score was made with the dipswitch set to "US".

This assumes that the changes occur with "Truxton II" and "Tatsujin Oh" and not just simply the European and Japanese versions of these games, but consider that "Truxton II" only seems to be given to the US and Euro releases, with all other releases being branded "Tatsujin II".

Alright, lgb you can move my score (482,540) from Truxton II to the Tatsujin Oh board. I was playing the japanese version.

Heres my score for Truxton II:
TomuS - 767 520 - 5 - MAME

Of course I died like every second in stage 5, it's insane..

Sorry about that. I usually just rip out your new score and replace it with the old one... sometimes I forget to reorder things.

Everything should be fixed and updated now.

The start of stage 5 is frustrating! Either you memorize the whole section or lose all lives.

Slight improvement on the Truxton II flavour:

After a couple of credits (how the hell long is stage 2 anyway!), I began again and managed to trigger a bomb drop midway through the first stage. Is there a trick to this, or was it a fluke/glitch?

The powerups come in predefined sequence, at first run after the reset you'll always get a bomb from the powerup carrier at the beginning of the green plateau. Starting over the game doesn't reset the sequence so the point where you'll get your first bomb varies from credit to credit.

btw, It seems that I need some practise to take over your score.
