light gun games

Post by P_HAT »

Hi.

Can anyone explain me some stuff like:
1) Does US/JP ver of DC light gun work with EUR console or you must have a EUR gun?
2) Recommend me gun for PC and Ps2.

If anyone have something related for sale, pm me, thanks.

Its been a while, but I believe the Dreamcast light guns only work with games of the same region. The console doesn't really matter so long as you can get it to load a game from that region. At least I remember it being this way with the Japanese light gun and the Japanese HOTD2.

Do HD CRTs work well? I've noticed that 480p lags imperceptibly, while 480i has ~2 frames of lag on my Sony.

Might have to pick up a VGA to component transcoder before trying DC lightgun games here.

yea thats a major bummer right there, but I think there are light gun games made to work on LCD/Plasmas now, technology has moved forward.

it has nothing to do with the game....its about how the gun interacts with the screen....most LCD/HD solutions require sensors around the screen

Depends on your TV.

If you have a 60Hz SDTV NTSC DC guns will work.

A warning though: No light guns will work on 100Hz TVs.

If your TV equipment is all new and HD, you might just wanna get a Wii with House of the Dead or something.

You misunderstood, I already know that!

I was just saying its now possible to play light gun games on LCD/Plasmas when it first wasnt.

As someone mentioned LCD/PLASMA/DLP will not work with guncon guns or any other gun. I think it has something to do with how the scanning works or the lack thereof. In any case you could go this route.

I have this, but it's a nightmare to calibrate and configure. When I want to play a couple of rounds of Vampire Night, Ninja Assault or Dino Crisis I end up spending most of my potential playing time shooting like mad at some calibration screens, without anything happening. And sometimes it works. But it is a very cool feeling gun with a laser dot and recoil system.

The DC light guns work fine on VGA, although I had to turn the brightness up on my monitor IIRC. Wasn't really worth it as playing gun games on a small screen is no fun. I'm not sure if a transcoder will work. I know that I couldn't get my Justifier gun to work when playing my Sega CD through an RGB->component transcoder (which introduces no perceptible lag).

Seconded. I love the voiceovers in this game.
