Finally got around to that replay...

Fantastic playing.
What a tense and intense game.

addition: The way the sound goes silent and then "FWOOOSH" for those last boss attacks is so great. Such awesome art direction.

Third_strike - 229,5322 - 6

Played 3 credits this today, then:
Stages 1-2-3-4 = playable
Stage 5-6 = impossible

Credit feed until last boss and this is very close one Hibachi.
Cool!

Which character did you use? And did you actually credit feed for this score?

Stage 1-6 with Gensuke.

Paltry 318, 1167 - but I impressed myself by reaching the last stage after only dedicating about 6 credits since returning the game after a long hiatus.
Gotta get this scoring down.

Do you both have Coin Chains?

Oh, and I'd rather have scores posted like so:
NAME - SCORE - STAGE - CHARACTER - COIN CHAIN

I don't require it, but it would better than disassembling a post.

Sorry mate, I'll try to grab the coin chain next time. It wasn't much. It's hard enough trying to catch the score before the continue screen comes up!

Especially then all of the digits are written in kanji instead of regular numbers!

If you don't have Coin Chains, it's not exactly a problem. I was just wondering.

If you need it, Mode7's Guwange FAQ has a section on which parts of the high score screen mean what, and a quick reference of the characters for numbers.

The best I've managed so far. Nubbish hits/deaths everywhere, but I kept my chain until stage 4 at least.

jonny5 - 148,0785 - 4 - 3621 - kosame

just got this game last week so im still getting used to the scoring system....i had been using shishin and maxing out at like 600k...usualy dying on the 2nd boss  or early in the 3rd stage....lucky if i could chain the first stage through to the second, if that, most runs

this run was like my second with kosame....i like her speed a lot more....chained up to just before the 3rd boss.....first time i made it to the 4th stage....it was a total zen run though....i kinda came back into my head on the 3rd stage when i got hit for the first time(stupid cat spider :x )....i love it when i have those random god runs....i get so excited  .....completely fell apart on the 4th stage and proceeded to die quick

great great game....glad i finally gave it a chance :D

Ruldra - 212,8225 - 5 - Shishin - 3,426

Why everyone has huge scores in this game? This is by far my best score but it's so mediocre when compared to you guys.

The 3rd boss takes too long to enter the screen and my chain always breaks there...any tips on how to keep it?

Also, some help to write my name in katakana would be appreciated.

You have to do some bullet stalling if you want to keep your chain. That's as simple as using your spirit to keep a bullet on screen until the boss appears to the point where the skull meter starts decreasing slowly (as per usual during boss battles).

From the looks of your name, I think るるどら would suffice.

Google translates that as Ruru Gong

I watched NEV's replay but I don't understand how he gets 1000 coins so early in the game (before he enters the house in the first stage). What exactly is he doing to get more coins?

To get the maximum amount of coins, you should be shooting all of the small foot-soldiers/bats/barrels and whatnot with the forward shot and scooping up their coins with the shikigami, as well as cancelling bullets shot out by larger enemies. Also make sure to keep your skull meter as high as possible throughout, since that determines the value of the coins you get.

I don't know if you are already, but I'd also recommend playing with autofire, since it allows for quicker switching between shikigami and forward shot. Plus boss milking is kind of impossible without it. :P

Tiny improvement but might as well post:

Lost my chain at the oxen-cart section due to a mistimed bomb. If not for that I would've easily broken 20mil. Goddammit. :x

Just in case you didn't know already there is a special chaining rule for that section : if you just use your shot to hit the "oxen-carts", each shot hitting one of them replenishes your "skull meter" by 1, meaning that you can fill it up in 1 second and keep it filled up by just shooting continuously while moving wherever you want (in the rest of the game the shot only refills the "skull meter" by 1 for each *kill*, not hit).

I think it's also possible to lose your chain in that part by bombing too late, is that what happened ?

Watching the replay, it's actually because I swept the bomb in front of me to take out the final wave of carts. I didn't take into account that this would leave me at the barren stretch right afterwards with a dying meter and no enemies to chain off of. Now I just feel like a moron.

On a related note, is there some kind of feasible way to dodge that part without bombing? SWY does it in his counterstop run. The fluid/effortless way in which he moves through makes it seem like the pattern can be memorized, but I haven't really looked into it.
