Tales of Vesperia PS3 Remake - anyone gonna re-buy?
Tales of Vesperia PS3 Remake - anyone gonna re-buy?
I can't say a PS3 release of Tales of Vesperia is surprising, seeing as how it's a high-budget game with a fanbase that mostly doesn't have 360s. Normally I wouldn't buy a remake that of a fairly lengthy game that I played through not-so-long ago, but in this case... I'm undecided. I really, really enjoyed ToV. I don't think it'd be much of an exaggeration to say it was one of my favorite games of 2008 - perhaps my favorite, actually. The main thing holding me back is the fact that one of the main new elements - the new character Patty (the pirate girl) looks rather uninteresting and unnecessary.
Anyone else considering this at all?

I bought the game and think it's awful.
The graphics are nice and the battle system is fun but the story is just so lame and that's what an RPG is all about. I gave up playing after one third of the game as I couldn't stand the bad story any longer.

I think the term 'remake' is used too lightly on the net.
The PS3 version shows no signs of remade graphics, altered or arranged music, or the original story being re-written entirely.
So far they've just thrown in an extra character, added some new mystic artes and some other bonuses they probably could have included in the first release but didn't, so they could just sell the game again at full price later. This is nothing short of a director's cut, made by our favourite team of con artists at namco. $$$

Okay, you're right, this is more of a director's cut than a remake. I don't think I could fit 'director's cut' into the topic though.Nei First wrote:I think the term 'remake' is used too lightly on the net.

Problem with all Tales games, is that the post-game is poorly constructed. I played through the 360 version, went into post-game after maxing out all my grade, and found that there's a ridiculous amount of backtracking to be seen. There's no indication of it at all, and you have to follow Kouli's guide in order to get everything you want.
There are one-time-only items, including the extra dungeon. I dropped the game during post-game at the town where those teleporters are scatted throughout, mostly because I was sick of following a guide.
Chances of the PS3 version having the same problem are high. I'd buy it but a new character doesn't really justify a purchase. Dual audio is a big plus, since the dub was mediocre at very best, but if the content isn't substantial then I won't be bothering. Time will tell.

Bonus points (cash?) if they release the dlc after people go and re-buy for the PS3.t0yrobo wrote:Honestly I wouldn't be totally surprised if after awhile they just released the extra stuff in the ps3 version as dlc., it'd be a great way for them to make some easy cash.

I'd be pretty surprised if they did this stuff as DLC - two of the new things seem like they would be ill-suited to a downloadable patch. First is the additional voice acting throughout and next is Patty; if she shows up early in the game then -every- scene where she has dialogue would need to be patched. This doesn't make it impossible, just unlikely imho.t0yrobo wrote:Honestly I wouldn't be totally surprised if after awhile they just released the extra stuff in the ps3 version as dlc., it'd be a great way for them to make some easy cash.
I'd give them mad props if they did though. That'd be a nice deal for the people who bought it already.

It'd have been nicer if they'd held out on releasing any version until it was complete. There's pretty convincing evidence that the 'extra' character was actually cut from the 360 version.
I won't be rebuying. ToV is built for replayability, what with its post-game stats screen and the ability to spend your grade points on carrying things over to a new game. If I'm ever going to feel the desire to play it again, it'll be on a system where I've already got a saved game to bring things ovr from, not one where I've got to start from year zero.

Indeed there is. I'm wondering if they ran out of space on the disc... this game has a looot of content on a single disc as it is. Wouldn't be surprised.E. Unless I'm remembering wrong and it's on more than one, in that case feel free to laugh at me.

This so called "evidence" was confirmed to be bogus created by the fans in a recent interview.Cthulhu wrote:Indeed there is.
