It looks like a flash game for some reason in that trailer.

Has there been any news on play-asia's mess up with the LE pre-orders?

Our primarily Japanese supplier hinted at shortages of Death Smiles LE a couple of days after preorders closed in February but the shortage was confirmed by two more dealers a few days ago. We've sent out notifications to customers already to alert everyone. Please note that there appears to be a 95% shortage of the game. For example, every 100 copies that were preordered will be allocated 5 copies. We don't understand it since one reason for selling something is to make an effort to fill demand. Please note that we won't know the exact quantity we'll receive until April 20 or thereabouts when our invoices are printed and faxed over from Japan.

Not really, as none of them would be perfect.
They would be perfect if Arika handled them.
Ports aren't perfect; sound and esp. speed issues pop up everytime. It's not enough for common players to care about or even notice but then, perfection isn't subjective even if ignorance is bliss. Even Mr. Mihara admitted their fabled DOJ port was still off and Clover-TAC put its accuracy at ~90% according to GP's translation of a Famitsu interview.

I pre-ordered the LE the morning it went up on NCSX, and so far I haven't gotten an email from them. I wonder if I was just missed in the mass-mailing or if I'm in the lucky first batch of 5%.

That trailer looks so good. I'm hyped.

Never translated that one due to length, but I read it. If memory serves, it was 80%. Maybe adversity will grace us w/ an indepth xlation. ;)
Although apparently MBL isn't all that hot.
It rocks. First to get high scores, you no longer have to not trigger the scoring mode for the last stages, then the temple alone is worth the extra money. So fun, and not painfully difficult like that fucking Canyon. Wish I had more time to devote to it. Damn you, real life.

nah man, it was more like 90-95%. it's on the beehive section of stage 5. i can't even make up my mind whether it's faster or slower. it's just ... a *touch* different.. :?

as long as the people you're competing with (ie xbox live) are playing under the same circumstances (which they will) it's not much of an issue

Did anyone else get charged or has play-asia screwed up royally here? I wasn't anticipating this until the 20th or so...

I think you'd better check up with them, because I've not been charged yet and I've also pre-ordered through them.

Good to hear the port is pretty accurate, though. I've never touched the arcade version so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway ..

MBL is gonna rock.

Looks really great. Too bad it's jp only, I'm too broke to get another 360.

Mihara <SNIP>

Mihara: Well? Compared to the arcade version, how many points would [it's accuracy] get?

Tac: Points? That's difficult (laughs). Well, I personally would give it around 90. But as they're on different hardware, if you put the two side by side you'd probably notice very slight frame differences.

Sounds like an 'on the fence' 90%. Mihara did say that if TAC told him "I think this is about 2 frames too slow" they'd fix it. Wonder how many times 5pb did something like that.

Just saw this on Kotaku... http://kotaku.com/5201130/gothic-lolita ... ow-on-sale

I don't know if I should be excited that DS has got either enough of a fanbase to see the release of these, or if I should exasperated that DS has enough character that Cave is going to potentially merchandise this to death.

have you tried the ps2 one? maybe he's talking about 2-5. if i had a gun held to my head, i'd say there is a touch less slowdown on the ps2 version, but i don't know if i'm imagining it since reading that. mind you, his score was pretty lousy (by his standards) on the ps2 version, so maybe he's just looking for a good excuse..

i'm regularly gonna use the ps2 version for practicing certain stages now. haven't played the 360 version yet. i'm actually really looking forward to the ketsui backlash now

Hey, at least Demo Label will be good for practicing boss fights and stage 5 on the go.

Not like it was ever good for anything more than that, anyway.

He's referring to the whole game. Also note that I think TAC has just a few more hours clocked on it than you.

re-read it, and it looks he says "at least 90%". and if he's referring to the whole game, you'd need to be running 5-6 frames out. sorry but i think i would notice that  if it was 2 frames out, that would be +97% accurate speed

So the big question is.. should I wait for a North American release or should I take the plunge and pick this game up?

If history serves me right... this most likely will not see a release outside of Japan.

If you've already got the jp360 I don't see a reason not to pick it up. I very highly doubt this will make it outside Japan as well.

To get to the US they would at least have to change the box art. Those gosulolis couldn't be shown at walmart shelves, especially the one with the v-cut skirt.

Of course this is ignoring all the other challenges a title like this would face in its travels stateside.

I don't have a Jp 360 was thinking of maybe finally picking one up seeing how Ketsui is just around the corner as well.

Raiden and R-Type are the only two series that has managed to make it outside Japan.

Instead of hoping for something that will never come might as well take a risk but I don't want to cry later after spending so much on a Jp 360 to see that the games I wanted get a north american release

This was my thought. It is pretty painful to sit and wait....

If you wait too long, then you may have a hard time finding the game at retail cost and have to pay the marked up ebay price when it is out of print.

I missed out on a lot of PS2 releases waiting.

Don't wait if you want the game. DeathSmiles will never come out in the US. Even if by some miracle it did, it would likely be years later.

Nah, you need to study your Japanese a bit more. :(

You're looking at the whole thing improperly... and way more detailed than the guys in the interview. They're not talking about only frames, and not just frames during slowdown.,, they're referring to the accuracy of the entire game. Mihara does say that it's the slowdown that's the "off" part though.

i don't read a lick of japanese. and like i said a few posts back, they could be taking stuff in the second loop into account, which i'm not familiar with. for the first loop, i would say it's +95%. i may not be clover-TAC, but you might want to note that my first loop score is higher

I meant to do the winking smiley the first time.

Anyway, as a translator, I can only restate the words... not make up new ones. It's quite clear that TAC thinks it's "around 90% accurate" and he also makes it quite clear that it's his opinion... not the gospel.
