Just recently bought something from a member here (Canada) and got stung for £66 customs charges.....before that I bought something from Japan and got stung for £36 then I bought something from Hong Kong and got stung for £17 (seller marked item as $50 when it was $500 lol)
3 transactions and 3 transaction IN A ROW
is it me or are customs checking EVERY FUCKING thing I buy? maybe im jumping the gun here but do you think its because its usually got Mohammed Khan written on it? and they automatically assume im getting bomb making materials shipped to me?
I had to sit here and get a lecture for 45mins from my old man on saving my wages and not buying arcade games that wont help me buy a house cus the postman said I could only claim the parcel by paying the money blah blah
Khan,

I only had to go through customs once in Sweden, and I've been importing shit for 7-8 years. I feel you pain though, nothing sucks more than being raped by the goverment when you already pay tax and stuff
I've been charged by Norwegian customs only once, and it was completely random. 6 CDs from Holland, I mean wtf?
I'm importing things (and CDs too) on a regular basis, I don't understand why they made me pay just for that and just then.
Customs are random.
its a country to country thing....i often get ruined on customs(im in canada)....stuff from the states, but particularly anything from teh UK....i get pounded(bad pun...i know)
same for shipping...to USA it isnt so bad depending on size and service, but UK is brutal.....
sorry you got hit that bad tho....in the future dont assume that sellers will undervalue goods and not go for full insurance....especially intercontinental stuff
I think DHL force shit in to customs when they come in to the UK they all add there "handling fee" on top of that which is not a small sum. i bought inc P&P a PCB which should of bee 35 quid to my door from the USA. Ended up being more like 70 quid after DHL forced the bastard though customs and then added there fee for holding the bastard
its really dangerous getting stuff from overseas when your in the UK we tend to get hit a lot more. Its worth asking people to price stuff down a lot on the outside also a little research as to how it will be sent. if i ever get stuff from the US i always insist they DO NOT use DHL
now i really dont get this whole undervalueing goods to save the buyer on customs fees...thats just retarded!!
so then if the goods are damaged or lost in shipping the seller should just refund the buyer out of pocket 100's of $ and be shit out of luck with nothing to show?
fuck that....the only way i would agree to that is if the buyer assumed full responsibility for loss or damage.....if it doesnt show up or it shows up broken its on them
i would have thought this was common sense....
you of all people should know that insurance for intercontinental shipping is very important, lordstar

Im prepared to do it on my shirts. But I doubt i would do it on a pricey PCB. once your getting in to Cave priced boards I would take the risk i guess.
Yeah . . . ive been stung. That was down to him failing to read my thread or just ignoring it and then deciding to use paypal to force the money off me. Does not matter how many rules you write out. If you use paypal and the customer decideds to fuck you over your fucked! Your essentially putting a lot of trust in someone by marking down a package thats for sure.

so basically what you are saying is for a cheap item taht you stood to lose very little on you would insure it, but for something you stood to lose $500+(in the case of most cave PCB's/kits) you would risk it?
that, sir, is retarded!!!
read your post again and tell me if that makes sense to you?
sorry you read that the wrong way around . . . or maybe i typed it. Thing is I would take my chances with customs on a pricey item but something under 100 quid from some one i trusted I would ask them to mark down or mark it down for them.
thank god lordy.....i honestly thought you were handicapped there for a second
im the same way....if its under $100 i dont care....i will insure if they ask but im not concerned and i would put a lower value.....anything more than $100 and its full insurance and tracking unless the buyer opts out and takes full responsibility......i cant afford to lose hardware and money in the same transaction....
and i dont like issues...tracking and insurance covers both parties....and i know when it is delivered, and depending on where, who signed for it...and on the same hand if its lost or damaged i can refund the buyer and eventually get my funds from the postal service
win win

Matters not from UK, its two seperate pieces of information for two seperate parties so the insurance doesnt matter. Dont get much hassle incoming either...

Ever. I can second that they suck hard from multiple experiences.
In one situation my package was damaged and I would not receive it unless the driver signed and noted it was damaged upon delivery. Instead of signing he took the package with him and said he would return later.
I've received damaged and opened packages from them on more situations than not. They have even stolen candy out of my chocolate shipments. Instead of taking a whole carton of 18 they would open them up and take 2 or 3 individual packages.

Like i said in the pm dude, I honestly doubt anything being shipped over would arrive here at my door damaged.....ive been trading stuff online for maybe 10 years or more and very RARELY had a dud arrive. Most of the time I go by seller....if I know the seller is a good guy and has done lots of transactions before and many respectable people vouch for him I would have no issues at all saying its fine luck of the draw as I know the chances of the item getting here damaged are really really slim as you had packed it very nicely
on the other hand I can understand "the not taking a chance mentality you have" and i guess its my bad for not talking to you about it in more depth. But whatever luck of the draw I guess thats 3 times though in the last month or two
I bought oriental legends 2 from excellent.com fpr $500 (around £350 at the time) and they put it down as $50 value I still got stung by dhl for £17 though but it arrived here in like 3 days

what? what do you mean?
Customs dont do your postal insurance.
ya....but in order to fully insure a package you must declare the full value....which is written on the shipping slip attached to the box
customs can see this.....this is what they base your fees on.....and ive even had them open the package and decide its worth more and charge me customs according to there assessment....
this is canada tho...cant speak about other countries
Yikes! opening your stuff up!?!? are they even allowed to do that? O_o it wouldnt surprise me to be honest....I once bought a Nitro car from a seller in the US and it arrived open like somone had opened it and re-taped it with brown tape....I did ask the seller and he said he used clear tape so that was kinda odd

and yes...i have had stuff opened.....most larger packages are opened at customs....especially if it shows nothing but circuit boards when x-rayed...
anybody who has ever received a package from me can vouch that i completely seal the box with tape on all sides so the buyer can see if it has been opened and resealed
jonny5 wrote:ok...well you are wrong...and im in canada
you have gotten lucky, thats all......
Prove to me that I'm wrong. Find someone who got hit with customs charges IN the US. And remember that US and Canada are two different things when it comes to customs. While the USPS tries to get the package to the person ASAP Canada Post tries to get more money from guys like you.

But in all seriousness, what could be flagged with customs fees? Everything I get is marked "old game" or "gift from Hong Kong Triad" so I don't get customs fees.
I always get charged on a random basis. I had a limited edition package of <some random game> arrive from Play-Asia, but with no custom charges. Then an OST comes from Play-Asia, and bam, I get raped by customs.
Also something I really hate about customs is that for the past couple weeks, EVERY parcel that has arrived have been tampered with/ opened by customs.
