Trizeal: Arc/DC/PS2

Post by spadgy »

The Trizeal Thread

Thanks to David Hollis for running the last one, where this is taken from (all uncompleted updates added).

All defaults

Score formatting like this:

[MODE]
SCORE - PLAYER - STAGE - SHIP

Herr Schatten's strategy guide is here and Kiken's general strategy discussion is here

Here's details of the ship types (No need to include the 'Player X' bit with your score; just A-1 or A-3):
Player 1: Antares-1 (A-1)
Player 2: Antares-3 (A-3)

And finally, the score table is here!

Yeah - I'm really going to push this game soon. For now I have to take a rest, as the recent London shmup meet and Progear sessioning in the build up has left my wrist in a state where lifting a cup of coffee hurts. Glad I have to type all day at work!

I thought it was better, but Space Invaders Extreme proved me wrong last night! Soon as it heels, Trizeal's my bitch...

I finally got to stage 5 without dying. I just switched over to the PS2 version, that might have something to do with it.

Awesome - shame to be so short of a top 10 spot!

So - you found the PS2 version more likable? Why was that? I'm thinking of picking a copy up...

In a past thread, I wrote:The bad stuff:

There's a lot more slowdown than in the DC version and, as Ghegs already mentioned, it's not the smooth kind, too. In fact, it's quite jerky. The funny thing is that the slowdown occurs in totally unexpected places. Sometimes you get a split second of slowdown out of nowhere. This is particularly bad in stage 3 where the game hiccups every few seconds. Quite irritating. The other stages aren't affected to the same extent, though. I, too, noticed that the break out scene in stage 4 seems to start earlier. The part with the turrets before the stage 3 boss is much easier due to the massive slowdown. Interestingly, the asteroid field in stage 4 does have less slowdown, which makes this part (which was already difficult in the DC version) a real nightmare. I have played only briefly and didn't go that far, but if there's a lot of slowdown at the stage 5 boss, this would make the game considerably easier. I'll check it out later today. As already mentioned, loading times are quite long.

The good stuff:

Graphics look sharper, the colours are more vibrant and the textures look cleaner. The config options are very good. There's an additional new kind of autofire, which I haven't tested yet. The option to map the da-da-da shot to a single button is ace. The challenges are extremely cool and much better than the omake stage from the DC version. If the challenges are any indicator, there seems to be a lot of creativity floating around at Triangle Service. I can't wait until they put it in another game.

So, yeah, that's it. I prefer the DC version of Trizeal, even though the PS2 version has its advantages. I have played the DC version so much that the occasional stutter in the PS2 version totally interrupts my playing rhythm. Mind you, the game itself remains unchanged and still very enjoyable, but the obvious technical problems make it hard to actually recommend the PS2 version.
I want to add that the new, faster autofire actually makes the game a bit easier and the slowdown only really puts you off when you've spent a lot of time with the DC version.

Thanks for the quick updates. As Herr Schatten said, the graphics in the PS2 version are quite a bit better than the DC version and the challenge mode is a lot of fun.

As for slowdown, I could tell there was a difference between the PS2 and DC version, but it didn't seem to be that big of a difference. I actually made it through the asteroid field in the 4th level without dying or bombing, which was probably another first for me.

So you probably don't have to have the PS2 version unless you absolutely love the game.

Will scores for the 360 version be of acceptance on these boards? I just got Shooting Love 200X and have been playing a little bit of Trizeal Remix.

I wouldn't see why not. The major differences in the 360 version are the total lack of slowdown and some odd enemy order reshuffling in the beginning of stage 5 (like in the PS2 version, the altered auto-rensha rate coupled with an auto Change button make boss battles a bit easier). I think from now on though, people should include which version of the game they're playing (NAOMI, DC, PS2, 360) just for the sake of clarity.

Also, I think listing the ship type would be beneficial (simply because there are minor differences in the 1P and 2P ships)... and for all I know, someone on here might be insane enough to try using the XII Stag ships.

I nailed a 4 million+ point run on Live last night. I asked Zakk if he'd be nice enough to download the replay from the ladder boards and capture it.

Sorry Sonic R - I missed your post somehow - I think X360 scores should be allowed absolutely - any objections anybody?

And yes - lets go for ship type too - I'll amend the first thread in this post in my lunch break - back to work for now!
