Will I ever get those Dreamcast games?
Will I ever get those Dreamcast games?
There are several Dreamcast games I've been watching eBay for a few years now, things like Mars Matrix, GigaWing 2, the Marvel Vs. Capcoms. It seems like they're in perpetual demand, and I never really feel like getting into a bidding war on them. And sometimes I wonder, will I ever actually bother to buy them? Will there be some point, a few years down the road, where I'm forced to cough up triple digit sums for these games, because I'm too cheap/more interested in expanding my Saturn and Genesis collections to buy these games now. Will the market ever give on used Dreamcast stuff, or can it only go up?
I'm in the same boat. I only need a few more games to really kill off my DC collection. I'd recommend what i'm planning on doing, that is, have a one time splurge and grab em all in one shot. You might as well get them while you can because as long as theres demand for them by collectors, the price will just go up. i still feel like a dumb ass for not buying Garegga years ago, now i'm going to be stuck paying out the ass for it.
Feedback will set you free.

Burial Plot Bidding Wars
They're well-worth the money, though; I got each of these games on release-day, and I still play them often. Most notably, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Saikyo Dojo, Giga Wing 2, Power Stone 2, and Capcom VS SNK Pro. There are really too many to list, though; every DC game that I have ever bought was well-worth what I paid for it. The DC has a lot of great multi-player games, and I think that is why they are in such high demand. Once you play GW2 or Mars Matrix, you'll see why they cost so much...because they destroy! Good luck, guys!
Bidding wars and sick prices are just a part of the Ebay experience.
See if you can buy them from another person or trade for them first. Maybe an online used-game store could help too. You can get what you want at Ebay, but you'll pay for it...
The more valuable DC games are all excellent. The shmups are great too, of course. What's the going rate on them anyway?

PM sent, mannerbot.
Although the last time I ordered, they dropped the ball on Raiden Trad. They sent me the SNES version, and when I returned it, it turned out they were out of Genny RTs. They refunded my money, but RT was one of the games I most wanted to play out of the games I bought, so I was disappointed.
I bought a whole bunch of Genesis carts a few months back, although I didn't take advantage of the 15 for 50 deal, because only two or three of the games I wanted were in their deal. But now, I've expanded the scope of what I'm looking for for my Genesis, so I'm definitely interested in using that deal, I could easily find 15 games on that list that strike my fancy. I might send them an e-mail to find out if the 1st party controller they have listed is a 6 button or 3 button, I could use a 6 button.roushimsx wrote:I'm in the same boat for a variety of different systems.
Next month I think I might finally jump on the ebgame deal where you can get 15 games for $50, though I'm only partaking in the N64 deal. I don't like getting used DC games

I've long finished building up my DC collection. I don't know why but there must have been an extreme southern migration of DC games during some winter and they never game back.
Australia is almost a cesspool of DC import and specialist stores.* **

ever consider sniping?
it's easy and ridiculously efficient. especially if you hijack your school's T1 connection.
Sure, it's not exactly a nice thing to do, but since when was ebay about courtesy in the bid competition?
wait untill the last minute and place your max bid.
I do it because it keeps my purchases cheap.
NEVER multi-bid before the close of an auction, waste of time money and bandwidth.

I think he means a higher bid than what is mandatory.
OR not?
I placed two bids once right after another.
I looked pretty stupid.
Check this out then:

One person bidded 5 times after another????
Thanks though for the ebay tips!

I bought a copy of GW2 recently. Buy It Now and all. I guess it's about being there at the right time.alpha5099 wrote:There are several Dreamcast games I've been watching eBay for a few years now, things like Mars Matrix, GigaWing 2, the Marvel Vs. I´d try to find someone who owns the games to try them before deciding your strategy. The only meaningful value of a game is what it means to you. If it´s in the "not that great" category, you can just go on and wait whether it will some day cross your path for a price you are willing to pay. If it´s in the "wow, I want it right now!" category, you can join a bidding war or search non-ebay traders for it. But doing so before you played the game runs the risk of being disappointed in a big way.
Of course, if you belong to the "gotta catch em all" collector category, eating Pokemon propaganda for breakfast, you are just lost, and deserve no mercy either, until you wake up.

The dates and bid amounts are more important than the order listed:D wrote:I think he means a higher bid than what is mandatory.

guy1 makes a (proxy) bid of $20.00
guy2 makes a bid of $15.00. guy1 is still the high bidder, though the price is now ~$15.50
guy3 makes a (proxy) bid of $40.09. He becomes the high bidder with the price at ~$20.50.
After several days, guy4 bids against guy3. He tries $22.00 and fails. (guy3's proxy kicks in and keeps him as the high bidder.) guy4 then tries $30, $32, $35, and finally $37. None of these beats guy3's $40.09 proxy. At this point, guy3 is still the high bidder with the price at ~$38.00
guy5 steps in with a bid of $42.00 and becomes the high bidder for 8 minutes.
guy3 makes another proxy bid, this time of $52.09. guy5 makes a $51.00 attempt to surpass it and fails.
guy5 makes another attempt for $56 and becomes the high bidder.
In half an hour, guy6 makes a $77.00 proxy and becomes high bidder. guy5 makes an attempt at $72.00 and fails.
guy5 tries again for $77.77 and becomes the high bidder.
With 3 seconds remaining in the auction, guy7 makes a high proxy bid and wins the auction at $78.77 (automatically one dollar more than the previous bid).
No one bid against himself.

I like to bid twice. One low-ball bid at the beginning to make other bidders aware of my interest (limping in as the first bid is good), and once more to snipe at the end. I'm a gentleman sniper :)Dartagnan1083 wrote:ever consider sniping?

I agree with the multi-bid sentiment once we reach 3 bids or so within a single auction.

Same here, except it was Mars Matrix for $19 with a $4 ship.Naiera wrote:I bought a copy of GW2 recently. Buy It Now and all. I'd keep your eye on the trade forum here too. I bought GWG2 and Mars Matrix from a member a few months ago. I don't really care for GWG2, but I am going to hang on to it for now and give it another go sometime. You can actually buy gigawing 1 new for around $10 on ebay. Currently, I'm looking for gunbird 2 and zero gunner 2 for the dc.

I've found that with gaming auctions, you really have to snipe at the last second. I placed a bid 5 seconds before the close of an auction and was outbid at the last second (Saturn copy of Shienryu). You'd almost be better off purchasing one of those sniping software packages that will place the bid at the last second.Dartagnan1083 wrote:ever consider sniping?

I'm boggled at how high GW2 goes for now, to think I got that game brand new for $15 retail the day it was released 4 years ago (man, did Capcom treat DC fans well or what?) And I'm glad my best friend Stuart (a fellow shmup fan who lurks occasionally here) owns Marvel vs Capcom 2. I gotta play that game again next time we hook up.

What I mean is placing a new bid shortly after you;ve been outbid, and while there is still plenty of time left.Capt. Takehiko wrote:Multi-bid?
I usually always wait as long as I can before placing my first bid.
I'd rather snipe and get an item for cheap than engage in a bidding war and drive the price up by $40 more than I whould have paid.

Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
I have an auction of an N64 with alot of games and goodies, it ends in about half an hour. Right now there's only 1 bid for $9.99, so I am a little worried, but hopefully the bidding war will begin soon. Check it out here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 8195745982mannerbot wrote:When I first got an eBay account I didn't see the point in sniping, but eventually you come to the realization that the typical eBay auction really only lasts five minutes. All bidding on an auction days ahead of time does is jack up the price.
I know that I am not selling the item myself, I had Quick Drop to do it for me. I can't be arsed to do all the shipping and picture taking crap myself.
EDIT: Dammit! It only sold for $9.99!! I don't get it, it was bundled with some AAA titles for the system!!!
Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
Since when there was morals on ebay in the first place? I almost sold my copy of Einhander to some greedy E-bayer. I cancelled the auction half an hour before it was supposed to end.Cthulhu wrote:Snipe. Snipe snipe snipe. Don't worry about the moral consequences of it, just do it. If you don't, you'll waste money. It's that simple.

Complaining about the concept of "sniping" is moranic. If you bid the max price you want to pay and someone outbids you 3 days or 3 seconds before the auction ends, they're willing to pay more and therefore you lose, how's that underhanded? It's not like they're bidding less than you 5 seconds before the auction ends and somehow winning. Bid more next time or get over it.
