Yeah I think I might try to mod my EX2. I already modded my HRAP3 for PS3, but I hardly touch my PS3 so I might sell it off to someone then pimp out my EX2. Btw I had to get the new SFIV version since my old EX2 got fucked up after hours of VF5 hehe. Would be nice to have some better buttons at least!Elixir wrote: The HRAP EX2's Sanwa stick isn't so easy to mod since it uses common ground and doesn't have a PCB, but the buttons use quick disconnects. It would be a breeze to take it apart and replace them (the EX2 uses Hori buttons). This is assuming you aren't worried about cosmetic appearance or the differences in design between the TE and the HRAP.
gouken and akuma aren't that bad.... i actually like gouken alot so far. I like alot of them though b/c it's SSF2T cast. I liked them alot for alot of reason and I grew up on SF on up to turbo. it's so familar right of the bat. plus it has new stuff and looks new ect.
i have been playing it alot, way more online than I had expected myself to but i really love it over the CPU..... i just chose arcade mode and have it randomly hook me up.... play the cpu and have someone join in...

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I think a lady freind of mine has sorted me out a Hori pro stick. I sent her an email a few months back asking if she would get me one and I would sort her the cash when she came to visit (shes in the US) shes been bragging shes got me the most perfect gift ever. Which right now would be the stick . . . If she suprises me with Sexy nickers and a free pass to her back door I will be very disapointed.
awwww I mean anal sex is nice and all but . . . I was kinda hoping you would of got me that stick

I have all three.LaserGun wrote:I've been reading about the MadCatz SFIV hardware on SRK for a bit now. I won't even think of buying this shit now. I'll list what I've read about each piece of hardware.
SFIV Fightpad -
- Complaints about the pad being uncomfortable and too big
- Diagonals are hard to register to the point it's a fluke when they do
- Directions getting stuck until you unplug the pad from the console/PC
- Shitty slow turbo speeds
- Some pads stop working randomly during play
SFIV SE Fightstick -
- Directions getting stuck + stick not going back to neutral (seems like the problem is a washer at the bottom of the stick is actually rubbing against the PCB, causing actual damage)
- Some sticks stop working randomly during play
- Minor cosmetic faults
SFIV TE Fightstick -
- Some sticks have cosmetic faults like stripped screws and scratches
- Stick has stopped working during games for some
- Some are not working with PCs due to driver issues
That's what I've seen so far, I'd just stick with modding a Hori or a custom stick, MadCatz sorting out their act really was too good to be true.
The fightpad, oddly enough, when I first started using it, up, down, left and right were all that would respond. After really working it in, it works like a dream. I have one for ps3 and 360, and the 360 version required no breaking-in whatsoever.
The Fight Stick is great. Mine is the ps3 version. I opened it up after using it for about twenty minutes, and it can be modded easily for anyone who wishes to put a new stick/buttons in it. The stick actually works pretty well, the dead zone isn't as big as say, a hori fs3/ex2, so that's good. Both sticks have a square gate, which I personally like better. The buttons are stiff, but very usable. I am planning on putting a Seimitsu LS32 in it soon.
The TE stick is pretty sick. My only beef with it is some screw in type buttons may not work with it, so you have to stick with snap-ins, which is fine. If anyone has played with a Sanwa stick, you know how nice they are. Not quite as "tight" as a Seimitsu, but that's not always a bad thing. There's a nice big area beneath the stick to accomodate any stick you could want to put in it, and it uses a five pin connector, same as the regular edition stick. A couple of my friends got this stick as well, and out of five of them, mine included, I only saw a couple tiny cosmetic flaws. All in all, it's pretty solid. The only thing that I can see being a hassle is the cheap-ass door on the cord compartment.
I love the game itself, I would bet money that a 'dash' and/or 'hyper' version come soon as there are some tweaks that can be made. I know that T-Hawk and Dee Jay were scrapped at the last second, and Ono said that it's pretty likely they could be in future iterations. I personally think the Ultra/Super system needs some work, not that it's bad at all, I think you should have more than one super, and maybe like, a super takes two ex slots instead of four. Overall, I looove it. It's new street fighter. The only thing I think is total horse shit is having to unlock colors/taunts and buying alt. costumes. That's reeeallly bogus.
who needs supers.... ultras are what I use if needed. I wind up using my super bar on ex moves and focus cancels.
they let you store TWO ultras and a super. it would turn into a super fest with 2 supers and 2 ultras store-able.

i agree the super/ultra system in street fighter 4 needs to be reworked.
ultras are too rewarding. you take about 50-60% damage and suddenly you've got this move that can do 40-60% damage to your opponent. it can decide the match far too easily. and the fact that you can't carry this meter into the next round just doesn't feel right.
super meter being tied into ex meter makes sense, but the fact that you only get one super bar stinks. this game encourages a lot of ex moves on wakeup to get around your opponents wakeup games, so it seems very rare that you actually use a super move.
i'd maybe like to see a setup where you can store 2 super bars (being attacked or attacking fills the bars) and ultra would use both bars. this would still allow for plenty of ex moves, a decent amount of supers, and if you save for it, the occasional ultra.

No, I've only been down there a few times, I was just curious if Seattle got SF4 or not. To tell you the truth I'm not the biggest fan of fighters (I'm horrible at them) but I am glad that Seattleites have an opportunity to play SF4 in the arcades.kemical wrote:have you been there often?seattlexc wrote:Are you talking about the Downtown Seattle Gameworks?kemical wrote:i had played it a bit at gameworks before

RIP Seattle SuperSonics - 1967–2008
Ultra system definately needs to be reworked.
Every time I try to play a game online it takes me like 15 tries to finally find a game I can actually join, they're all "Unable to Join". I dunno if anyone else has that problem, but it pisses me off.
They should've toned it down a bit with the Shotokan characters too, almost every character in SF IV plays the exact same.

I hope they don't add anymore shotos in future versions. I could see evil ryu being implemented as it kind of fits in with the anime tho, and Shin Akuma just because. As for the Ultras someone mentioned you can store two of them, but I just played through arcade mode a few times and no matter what level it was at, when I used it, it emptied. Hmm, oh well. Still love this game.tommyb wrote:They should've toned it down a bit with the Shotokan characters too, almost every character in SF IV plays the exact same.
Got a chance to play around with the PS3 version yesterday, ammunition was one stock PS3 pad and one HRAP 3 (sanwa stick/hori buttons).
The new characters are all somewhat wierd. Don't like them too much. That fat blob guy is just disgusting.
Sagat is amazing, he's also #1 in the rankings from arcades across Japan. Ryu comes in 2nd and Zangief 3rd, surprisingly. Guess his high priority grabs are messing up a lot of players. http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/oc ... -rankings/
IMO the game needs a serious balance pass, a speed boost, and just get rid of the Ultra system entirely. It reeks of scrub.
Looking forward to the 2nd and 3rd version of Street Fighter 4 any day now.

It does reek of scrubishness. I've noticed while playing online, it's pretty much the same thing time and time again..'Beat on scrub, scrub gets ultra, uses ultra, gets beat on again, gets ultra, uses ultra, one more combo, scrub ko'd'
Sagat is a beast. Seriously. The latest Tougeki tier list puts Viper in the upper most ranks as well. She must have been better than most thought she would.
I saw a vid of someone doing pretty well with Viper. Maybe players just need to learn how to use her (get some KOF players in there, lol).jormungand wrote:The latest Tougeki tier list puts Viper in the upper most ranks as well. She must have been better than most thought she would.
Still, she isn't very well represented in the arcade rankings. Maybe that will change.
geez i dislike Sagat due to the players I've faced online... they just pummel the same attack over and over.
Some reason I've been primarily playing as Dhalsim, I think its because it drags the matches out and I end up laughing my ass off as I teleport away from all their dragon punches and haidokens...tons of ryus and kens.
Also use Abel sometimes, he feels like a Samurai Shodown character to me.

If you went to Gamestop, keep in mind they're a bunch of dicks that usually buy just enough copies for preorders to encourage people to buy in advance. They didn't have any available copies of New Super Mario Bros when I went to get one on release day (the minute they got their initial shipment, to be exact.) Same thing happened when I went to buy Portrait of Ruin, and I quickly decided they weren't worth my time.

I've been playing this quite alot. I suck balls at it though. Well, I suck at beating Seth put it that way.
With Seth my rounds go something like this - I get 3 hits in (If I am lucky), after that I feel like a bouncing ball. I have most of the characters now. Trying for Akuma at the moment, but I only beat Seth 1 out of 5 times and so far can't get the luck.
I am using the USB Saturn pad myself
It works quite well. Choose type B controls and change whatever you want to change. I did need an extension cable to be comfortable though. It only works if you put the pad in before you switch the PS3 on.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Played this quite a bit. I'm crap at it, too. Playing with the stock PS3 controller now, the HRAP3 being in the mail.
I understand the love for Sagat... He does serious damage and is quite fast for a guy that strong. I play Akuma the most, and I don't get why Ryu would be "ranked" higer than him. I feel Ken has a better moveset / better ultra than Ryu, too...
I got my ass kicked several times by Seth on medium, but it seems I can now consistently beat him now if he doesn't get too excited. He's quite a cheat, still, with his throw having priority over pretty much everything.

Bought this launch day and loving it. Wasn't too excited about it at first, but incredibly pleased with the game.
One note about the tiers - keep in mind that fighting game tourney tiers change over time, and the tiers are going to be modified quite a bit due to the new characters. Crimson viper was ranked really low on one of the original lists I saw, but in a more recent one from a Japanese mag she's gone to near the top. As always, if you practice a lot, it's possible to become incredibly good even with a low tier character - it just takes more work.
As an example of this (read about this over at Shoryuken), at a Japanese national tourney, the winner was a Dhalsim player, and Dhalsim was (and still generally is afaik) a rather low-tier character.

Three of the four new characters get quite a bit of use by the better players at the arcade where I am now。 Only El Fuerte is left out。 I
don't think I've seen him used once。
Other than that it's Ryu/Ken and Sagat all the way。 A common pattern is somebody playing with their new character, running into somebody they can't beat, then getting frustrated and switching to Sagat for the win。 He's obviously the strongest。
