Commercial bullshit

If you love someone, there are (usually) 365 day a year to show this to them.

Sure, show them today but no need to do it more than any other day in the year.

My girlfriend is going bake me a cake today. And does not happen all to often! So it's "for" in my book. But if the cake tastes like crap it might very well change to "mixed feelings"

Me and my girl are getting drunk and watching Vexile and Wanted - her choices. She wants to do an anti-Valentines Day without dinner, wine and all that bullsh*t.
Last year I brought her a simple red rose with some baby's breath in a small vase to her gym (she's a personal trainer) and thought I'd just hand it to her on the floor and give her a quick kiss, do my job and be gone. When I walked in her manager told me she was upstairs and went up to see her. She was in the metting room - with 10 other big beefy dudes and trainers, just about to start a meeting. I handed her the flower, gave her a kiss, and got taunted by all the dudes on the way out. She appreciated it for sure, but I think she wants to stay away from having to do the 1-upsmanship thing and competing, which we do at everythihg else. We love each other a ton and just don't need 1 day a year to say it.

Feh @ Valentines. An overly commercialized holiday where people feel somehow obligated to suddenly "show their love" when they can't be bothered to for the rest of the year. Sad. If you love somebody, you shouldn't need an overpriced holiday bouquet or dinner to tell em...you should show em all year long. Makes me mad. My wife and I both think it's silly and don't celebrate it. We also don't celebrate anniversaries.

Valentines Day? Isn't that the day when all singles get to rant and rave about how much relationships suck? :3

Valentine's Day is pure, grade-A horseshit, and is the second worst holiday behind April Fools.

Funny, here in Brazil we only celebrate Valentine's Day around June. The reason? That time of the year doesn't sell as much compared to the other months, so they thought about making up a celebrating event to boost sales. And thus Valentine's Day was born.

How romantic.

Does anyone even know what Valentine's originates from without looking it up? Seriously...why celebrate a holiday when no one knows where it even comes from?

Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving...

Being alone on valentine's day sucks. The entire holiday is a celebration of being with somebody. It's basically a 24-hour-long F-you to all single people.

Buy stuff and give it to your girlfriends! Good for the economy.

I'm for other people to waste money and make things better for others :D.

You shouldn't need a particular event pushing you to do nice things for your significant other, but today I gave my girlfriend some flowers and chocolates, and it put a smile on her face - so where's the harm in it? It doesn't have to be grandiose and expensive.

My feelings are mixed, on the positive side its a day which reminds us to set aside some time to do something nice for people we care about, its all too easy to get complacent. The part I don't like is the big drive to get people paired off just so nobody is single on a particular day. I guess when you're at school this seems pretty important but it just seems a little futile to me now.

The Simpsons opening sequence regarding the creation of "Love Day" pretty much sums up my feelings.

Not the first time either. I pick my partners like a chick I always go for bad girls.

I recall the Futurama episode where they blew up the candy made of ear wig honey and zoid berg goes on to explain

Zoidberg wrote:As the candy hearts poured into the fiery quasar a wondrous thing happened, why not. They vaporized into a mystical love radiation that spread across the universe destroying many, many planets, including two gangster planets and a cowboy world. But one planet was exactly the right distance to see the romantic rays but not be destroyed by them: Earth. So all over the world couples stood together in joy. And me, Zoidberg. And no one could have been happier unless it would have also been Valentine's Day. What? It was?Hooray!

I made a windows media slideshow movie with music remixed from Dragons Lair. She loved it.

No financial stretching this year. You got to be able to make money before you can spend it.
