I think I've lost the touch
I think I've lost the touch
The last real 2d games I've played for the last year were various iterations of King of Fighters until tonight when I loaded up Contra HardCorps and Shinobi 3. Holy crap have I gotten slow. It seems like everything is zipping around the screen and I'm moving like a horribly obese fat man trying to do the hurdles.
Anyone else ever get to this point? If so, what games did you use to recover?

The ol'd sage advice: Practice makes perfect works wonders for me. ^_~
By spending some quality one-on-one time with Klax, it's simple game to learn but a hard game to master. There are certain patterns that can be pulled off to boost your overall scores but each game of Klax is never the same game twice due the randomness of the colored tiles be generated by the CPU. So you have to change gears really fast and hope that one certain "wild" Klax tile comes your way to save the day (but most likely, chances that it won't happen). So you gotta play with what you're given at the moment. I've played hundreds games of Klax back in the early 1990s to learn by trial and error of what to do and what not to do.
If you're rusty on some certain genre of games that you haven't played in a while, it's best to take it nice and slow and work your way back into the rythym of things. I had a co-worker who is a known as a "Jack of all trades" type of gamer -- meaning that he beat such games whether it be FPS, 2D action platformers, 3D action platformers, etc. Give him a game and he'll finish it in no time flat. I'm impressed with his gameplay abilities...he would make a fine beta tester indeed. ^_~

Okay through the magic of save states, I've made it to round 4 on shinobi 3...on the Easy difficulty.
I know this is going to sound like whining but I'm thinking it might be my controller. The xbox 360 face buttons on the pc seem to be very gummy and don't feel very responsive at all. I'm going to try some klax soon.

On easy? What the fuck, I can admit to being shit at action games but Shinobi 3 is pretty easy, you can virtually dash through all the levels. Maybe you're experiencing input lag due to a slow USB polling rate, have you used a USB speed tweaking app to eliminate input lag?The n00b wrote:Okay through the magic of save states, I've made it to round 4 on shinobi 3...on the Easy difficulty.

Oh and I recommend a strict diet of Metal Slug 1, 2 and 3, I find them easier than Contra titles.

Thought you were more articulate than that. What a shame...leveling up in shooters but not in more important activities.GaijinPunch wrote:You've obviously never had both your wrists broken.junkeR wrote: Yeah, but this is inaccurate - as people don't stop wanking.
Anyway, when does all this come about? 35? 40?
