This may be true, but I could easily seem them doing better than the job pictured above. It just looks bad to me.

Only if they use really low poly count models. Which definitely isn't nessecary on the PS3/360.

Low-res pixel art doesn't have curves either, it has big boxes. That's part of the charm, though :P

Unless you use NURBS or patch meshes to model everything, but AFAIK the graphics hardware needs to convert it
in triangles again and the poly count would skyrocket through the roof...

...which like Udderdude already mentioned shouldn't be too much of a problem with next-gen consoles.

I think the original advertised date was 31st, a few people were feeling kind of let down this Wednesday.

Didn't one of the devs in the interview say "hopefully in the beginning of the next year"?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm really looking forward to this game. I know it's not IREM but I watched an interview (don't remember where) and the guys seemed to be true fans devoted to R-Type so... I have optimism for the "final" product.

I know of NURBS of course, but nothing of the kind seems to be implemented here. Just look at the outlines in the pictures posted - all straight lines.

then why worry about it and just skip it... play R-Types in low res on PS1. The vids and pics look fine to me.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Already done in the PS2 port of DDP DOJ (fittingly named No Bullet Mode).
Ironically you can still die if you crash into ships in that.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I can't say I like the new camera angle gimmick, but from what I've played today it's bloody good fun.

It isn't released until Wednesday. You don't need a gold account to download new demos of XBLA games.

Odd...they went totally softball with the achievements. Nothing close to clearing the game with one credit. Then again, there may be catches...

Ya they took 2 hard games and made a 3 year old able to get everything. Oh well. I don't play for achievements on games i really like. No skin off my back.

is the difficulty as brutal as reviewers are making it sound? and if anyone has played through both games, how long are they? typical shooter length... 4 or 5 stages? looks good... i'll probably buy it if everyone's this excited about it. thank you XBLA!

Looks like Teamxbox scored it based more on price than anything else.

The first game is no slouch in the difficulty department and the second game is typically viewed as one of the most difficult games in the genre.

The first R-Type is 8 levels, the second is 6. Both games loop.

In regards to the pricing... I was assuming that this was going to go for 800 space bucks... but I'm not going to begrudge these guys another 400.
