SD: Thunder Force 4/Lightening Force Stage 1 infinite score

Post by toaplan_shmupfan »

I didn't notice this was posted before, even though this game is fairly old now, so here goes.

On the Strite stage (Stage 1), there is an infinite score possibility, although it can become boring to keep this up for a while.

Pre-requisites:
* Claw
* Rail Gun

Towards the end of the first half of the stage, when the robot that launches enemies in the air from the pods in front of it appears (it's the same one that appears very early in the stage on Maniac mode and then later on, but don't try to infinite score the first robot in Maniac mode) switch to Rail Gun and only attack the enemies launched in the air.

While continuing to attack enemies launched in the air, also start moving towards the right edge of the screen to draw the robot as far forward as it will go. At that point, keep all the way to the right edge of the screen and center the ship along the horizontal line that is visible between the water and the mountains. Then just hold down the fire button and keep attacking the enemies that are launched. (Iin most cases it won't even be necessary to move, but if one gets by the Rail Gun then just move up a bit to attack it before it dives in after the ship, and get right back on the line between the water and the mountains once again.)

This seems to work even in Maniac mode, in addition to Easy, Normal, and Hard modes. The score slowly increases by 100 points for each enemy launched in the air that is destroyed, until the pods are finally destroyed and then the robot is finally destroyed.

(Mod edit: changed into SD -Ghegs)

This is more of a SD than a ST.

You can also milk the last boss indefinitely just by shooting the stuff he throws at you on his first form. Since he doesn't time out, you can do that for as long as you want. The game is pointless to play for score because of that.
