Good flash shmups
My cousin, who I have been trying to get into STG forever, has for some reason decided to create a vertical shooter in Flash for a college project. Can anyone point me to some decent inspiration? I played an Ikaruga clone once but thats about it.

You could blame the infamous 'shooturial' over at Kongregate for this I guess. I just completed it earlier today myself, so expect a shmup from me very soon...Udderdude wrote:So he doesn't play shmups but wants to make one? Sounds like every other guy who made a half-assed Flash shmup with awful gameplay, and there are a lot of them out there .. (yes I am a cynical ass, kthx)

One of the best flash shmups is Neko Shot. Your cousin NEEDS to see this game. This was the link last time I checked: http://www.nekogames.jp/mt/2007/05/post.html .

That was pretty cute. But it really felt more like a joke that went too far.doctorx0079 wrote:One of the best flash shmups is Neko Shot. Your cousin NEEDS to see this game. This was the link last time I checked: http://www.nekogames.jp/mt/2007/05/post.html .

The hitbox seems like it's bigger than the ship itself.

@SuperPang
If you liked the Ikaruga clone you might like this since it's heavily inspired by Ika:

It shows good promise. All it needs is some distinct enemy and bullet patterns and better pacing and it will be head and shoulders above the competition.Laubster wrote:I have done a top down shmup in flash last year.

One tip: Don't use the spacebar for shooting as it will lock up the arrow keys on many computers.
