I finally managed to beat this game for the first time this past weekend. Even though it only took 5-6 hours on my first run, I really enjoyed this game. I see the company started the Broken Sword series, but they have at least 4+ games in that series.
I was curious as to if anyone had any recommendations on other point-and-click style games similar to B.A.S.S.? I did look into Broken Sword - but I'm not sure which one to get and I really don't want to get all of them either.
I did a search on the title, but didn't find anything in the first few hundred results. If this is a dupe, please lock and I'll cower away to my dark room.
I strongly recomend Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaws Chzo series. They can be downloaded for free at his website: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/
Start out with 5 days, then Trilby notes, 7 days and finally 6 days. Great games all of them. Especially the later games got a nice dark fell to them. They're quite short though, expect about 5 hours playtime per game.
Sven: Did you know that the amiga version of BASS was translated to swedish? Supposed to be quite good actually, never seen any roms though and the original version seems impossible to find
The first 2 Broken Sword games are definite classics with among the best stories of any adventure title. Never played the others. Not really a fan of most cult-classic cyberpunk/horror-related adventure titles like BASS though.
I played through this on Amiga back in 1994. Love Joey in that game. hardest thing I remember in the game was finding that plastic explosive as it was 1 pixel of brown
@JunkeR: You won't find another adventure on par with BASS if you're looking for post punk sci-fi... Actually, you might look into Snatcher or Policenauts, but given your nickname you probably already played those two.
As for Revolution adventures... Their greatest classic to this day is probably the first Broken Sword. The second one had a worse story, and I'm playing the third these days - therea are ledge jumping sections and crate puzzles, which imho isn't a great idea for an adventure.
@maxlords: maybe you can extract the gamefiles from your CD32 disc and play the game on SCUMMVM.
i guess you will have heard of the (secret of) monkey island series but i thort id mention them, 1 and 2 are absolute classics from the amiga age. erm all slightly more funny rather than gritty but i remember simon the sorcerer and the discworld point and clicks being quite good. oh and ofc zakk mckracken (sp) and the alien mind benders is also a must.
My personal favourite point and click adventure games are The Longest Journey, Syberia, and Day of the Tentacle. Dark Seed is also good, especially for HR Giger fans, but it's brutally difficult without a guide due to the time limit.
Has anyone played I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream? I've been wondering if it's worth tracking down.
I don't think I could ever get 25th Anniversary to work right when I was a kid and everything had to be Windows 95-compatible for me to understand it. I was able to play it for a while though. Should be a nice change of pace as I don't feel like playing a ton of action games right now.
Unfortunately the downside is that a lot of the setup work needed to get this stuff going again is borderline migraine-inducing. Then again, Crystal Faction (Red Faction mod of sorts) has fucked up my main computer's XP install, and I'm just naturally wary of installing games.
The only thing I needed to do to get the Star Trek games working on XP was install VDMSound and use it to run the executables. I'm sure DOSBox would work too, but I don't like to bother with a full-fledged emulator for games that VDMSound can handle.
yeah screw VDMsound and other "this won't hurt your registry I promise." That said, did VDMsound get better than that other non-freeware program which seemed okay but had its development and sale stopped a few years ago (forgot the name of it at the moment)?
Whenever I get Virtual PC up and going, I'll try crazy stuff like that again; until then...ehh...
