Soukyugurentai / Terra Diver

Soukyugurentai is just too awesome. This time it's Raizing's take on the formula established by RayForce. Incredible atmosphere and lock-on lasers and Raizing depth: how could you go wrong? Features music by Sakimoto that is way better than the music he did for some other shooter ported to the Saturn.

Taking over Souky as well since MovingTarget hasn't posted since 2007 and I want to get back into this game.

I dug out which people said they played on difficulty 5 and just assumed that everyone else played on 4 (since those were the directions on the old thread).

Cool! Wonderful game that I for some reason have neglected for far too long.

On the swedish forum we set arcade difficulty=5 as a rule, so that may mess it up a bit. My score is such old so it doesn't matter really where you put it, but it may be different with javel's score since it's a top score.

Perhaps one table for difficulty 4 and one table for 5 are better distinctions so saturn owners can compete with arcade players if they want.

That's actually how it is already. Maybe I explained it poorly, let me fix the wording to make it super clear.

Moving Swedes to difficulty 5. Forgive me if I missed anyone.

What is the default on the Saturn game set to?

That is the setting I have played at. For a very very long time, I was unable to navigate the menus in this game since everything is in japanese… I just turn on the power and press start…

Default difficulty on Saturn is 4. Thanks for asking, I am editing the first post to say that on the tables. Don't worry, I always have to fumble around Japanese menus as well. :)

BTW thanks for the link in your sig, I had never seen it before. I must say you have the best sig of anyone, and already my favorite moment of this season so far was the "crab dribble."

Thanks :D
I'm a huge fan of NBA but not of a certain popular player… I just cannot stand his behavior and arrogance… even last night, this player blamed the common cold for loosing. A real player who once wore #23 played with the flu and actually had a good game…

I actually played some Souky the other night… but I was a bit rusty. I'll probably give it more goes as I'm just sticking with non TATE games right now as I'm bouncing about between Metroid Prime 3 and Lost Odyssey…

Souky is such an underrated game from Raizing!

Thanks to Limbrooke for clarifying some more of the version differences. I edited the first post to reflect this, but there should be no effect on anyone who has already posted a score in this thread.

As for me, I'm sadly absent right now from my own thread, but I'll tackle this game next after I've played Psyvariar 2 enough. :)

Damn, this arcade board we have is really solid. I thought I got a great score and I'm not even upper half. Our second lowest score is 8.5mil, that's pretty crazy. Well, this will change tomorrow when the tourney scores come over.

Also I love how the scores are in New Yen. I don't know about inflation but there's no way they're getting paid enough for this.

Mounted the Seimitsu LS-32 last night. Beat my score by roughly 100,000 pts on the first run, no warm up. I will post the actual score sometime later.

Wow, I didn't realize it had been that long since I had posted that score. I really need to get back into this. I have a J Saturn on the way and I am now playing on a more competent LS-40.

I need to warm up again and give this some serious runs.

No one told me this amazing game existed. Wish there weren't confusing graphical problems with MAME running this game though.

Saturn (AC 5)
REDACTED - EmperorIng - Stage 3 - Swordfish

Almost broke 5-million. I'll probably do that later tonight but I wanted to post this as something of a progress report.

I can get to the stage 4 boss on one credit thus far, but this run in particular was not as fortuitous. However, it did score more than the run I DID make it to st4 boss.

Can anyone tell me any good reason NOT to use the Swordfish's Pinpoint at any given time?

I feel like if I practiced this game for a week straight I could 1CC it no problem. I used to credit-feed it all the time so I know the stage layouts and enemies pretty pat. That being said, Stage 6 (the oil fields) is brutal no matter how you slice it. I suspect bomb-spam might be the only way out of those damn submarines' lines of fire.

Now that's more like it!

Saturn (AC 5)

[REDACTED]

EDIT: IGNORE THESE SCORES - THE EXTEND WAS NOT SET AT THE RIGHT AMOUNT.

A really great run, up until the Stage 3 boss DESCENTER (God I love these boss names), and it left me ill-prepared to deal with the asteroid field. I practically nabbed the first extend at stage 1, which is what I assume a proper player would have been able to do, but I lucked out at 1,9xx,xxx by the end of the boss GAMBITER.

As far as the Stage 3 boss goes, he started to get me good once I removed his two flame-thrower appendages. That bullet-spam just feels random, and I have yet to find a hole that doesn't feel more like luck.

I love how this game just dumps bombs on you. It makes it very manageable to get far in the game if you are powered down. It makes for some very tactical play, where you barely use your main shot.

I'm confident that with a little practice, I can get through to the Oil Field stage (which is a nightmare even when credit-feeding!).

EDIT: Looks like Enhasa hasn't been active in quite some time. ~.~
Uh, I guess a new guy takes over?

I guess Raizing competition is out of season!

8,139,260 - EmperorIng - Stage 5 - Swordfish

I finally put everything on the correct settings, and lo and behold, my best run yet.

As I expected, Stage 5, the oil fields, tore me to shreds in seconds. I had to laugh at all my carefully-stocked lives deplete in moments as those damn submarines and turrets chew my ass.

Hmm, that's too bad. I wouldn't mind taking over. I'm already managing the Souky score thread at Racketboy.

Also, I posted something about this in the Strategy Thread and never really got any kind of investigation going: Soukyugurentai (Otokuyo or otherwise) appears to be much easier when played on US Saturn hardware and possibly when the arcade hardware (or MAME) is set to the US region. Head over and check out my post. Any help to confirm this would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, nice score! That last level must have been pretty tough!

That's ~5mill better than my best; I'm hoping to post a finished score once I successfully clear the game.
