Idolmaster Question

If I were to import this game, is it even playable for me, a non-Japanese speaking person?

The first game appears to be very involved, so it would probably only be playable if you watched a series of full gameplay videos on nico. The second game is much easier since it's basically a rhythm game (think navigating IIDX or Pop'n) but the timing is really weird. And the second game is pretty much fanservice for those who purchased the original title.

I've been wanting to try this game for awhile now, but can't figure out how I'd get past the language barrier.

And no thanks on the sequel.
