Screw that, just put some stupid antialiasing on and an optional texture filter and everything is fine. They released Banjo Kazooie like this too.
(except the texture filter which is always on)
Sounds to me like Treasure's inclined to get more in terms of cash for an RS re-release than what they feel they could get on XBox Live. I can't imagine that they wouldn't like a piece of eBay price-gouging pie, when their game goes for well over a hundred dollars regularly.
Agreed. That sounds like: "We wouldn't mind releasing an updated version, but since this requires an actual effort, we'd like to charge a full retail price, and not sell it cheaply on XBLA like Ikaruga."

Drop the story?!!! are you crazy? this shouldn't be done and if this were I'd be unhappy as microsoft seems to hate Under Defeat and won't let it on Xbox Live.

I love the game, but if it comes to xbox live I'd be sad. its way better than that and if it gets a 360 release it needs to be sold in stores. the soundtrack is amazing and so are even the songs and versions that didn't even make it. I think RS has the best soundtrack that ever made it into a treasure game.

Bullshit. Microsoft specifically requests that it gets released for XBLA, which isn't retail in any form. Which is a bit hypocritical of them since they rejected Ketsui and DOJ for XBLA releases; it seems they're unable to make up their mind.
Maybe you should go for the world record of Radiant Silvergun when it gets a 360 release~

The original arcade mode has no voice-over and jack-shit for written text.
I think Udderdude's hit the nail on the head... porting ST-V/Saturn game code is going to be a shitload of trouble that Treasure most likely wouldn't want to mess with unless it meant a full retail release.
They already have a 3D engine running on 360 hardware. They could conceivably just reuse that. Ikaruga does far more ambitious stuff with 3D than RSG, so I think the same engine could be used.

Ikaruga sold about 120,000 times on XBLA last time I checked on vgcharts and it was 6th or 7th best selling arcade game 2008 on XBLA. I think they made more money out of it than they would if they had released it as a retail game and sold 7,000 copies like most other 360 shmups.
EDIT: Just checked vgcharts and Ikaruga is not in the Top selling arcade games 08, sorry. Though it is featured in the top 10 arcade games 08 if you log into XBLA...

They were playing the radiant silvergun OST in my local game shop tonight. I don't think it's my kind of thing stil, despite sinking a fair amount of time in it, but hearing that score while looking through various Ubisoft published shite DS 'games' made me think more people should at least have the chance to play it

Sold my ST-V and Saturn copy during my retro purge in summer, so it'd be nice if it comes to XBLA.
I wonder if MS could use some of their devs to do some of this? I know Artoon are sitting around now that there's no more Mistwalker work to work on for the next year or so (or at least that's the story).
Yep, hate the microsoft xbla policy 'decisions'... you just know there was some tool looking at famous big $ old games simply highlighted raidiant silvergun for them...
Unfortunately, I think its far more likely the request only represents a relatively casual enquiry. An enquiry which would proceed any real decisions that would actually be taken at green light meetings. It's simply a testimony to the rs reputation that this request has garnered such speculation and interest.
Whilst production of this port would be an investment, a straight port does not seem too problematic if sources have been preserved. However, my reading of the answers given are that treasure are not comfortable with the feel, aesthetic and design of the original rs for a comtemporary xbla release, and maybe even their own branding. They seem reluctant to respresent themselves in this way, and a complete remake/new project would be a much bigger issue.
Rs has a big place in shmup history. Is that place being preserved intentionally there? After all despite the official/initial intent of rsg project 2, Treasure did shy away from simply calling it radiant silvergun 2 ...

Sega has ported heaps of Saturn/ST-V code to PS2 (NiGHTS, Fighting Vipers, Virtual Fighter 1+2, etc). Yes, Sega have more resources (read: cash), but it's obviously not impossible.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if those games had to be rewritten from scratch for the PS2. The term 'conversion' can be very loosly used.

some of these were actually ported from the PC version's code, rather than the original saturn games
also: you don't deserve silvergun

At first I scoffed at the suggestion of a complete remake for 360, but actually, I'd love to see a boxed RS for 360, and maybe a remake might make that happening more feasible. I'm cautious to expect a remake to equal the original, but maybe it's better to get a somewhat new game rather than a direct port (that may be far from perfect).
That said, I'm all behind an XBLA port too. If it gives more people a chance to enjoy RS, then that's brilliant...

I was under the impression that the ports of VF, VF2 and FV to the PS2 were conversions of the Model 1 and 2 arcade games, not the Saturn ports.
I'd pick it up either way, disc or download, but it would have to be a complete game with the Saturn mode if they wen the disc route. if it was purely a download for 10$ i couldn't complain about losing the story mode.
Similar thing happened with triggerheart, they removed the story and arrange modes for the 360, but you can't complain since its a fraction of the cost the PS2/DC disc.

That's if that was ever true in the first place. It still remains the case that the only person to claim this is the bloke responsible for those conversions.
Given that the release dates for both keep on getting shoved back, I don't find it too hard to believe that MS turned them down for quality reasons. Tiny, unproven company approaches media giant and requests official approval for release of relatively obscure, niche games. Has no code or demos to show potential, gets turned down. Wouldn't be the biggest surprise ever.
