Very Hard - Frederik - 1,434,043,410 - B - All

Training Mode payed off even more this time. The first time I autobombed was at the final pattern of Vinogradov, and I first died on Evaccaneer, which is where my run started falling apart. But I already topped my old score at Trafalgar, so no big deal :) I also improvised in certain places, such as finishing both "feet" on Sphinx with shot (I wonder why I didn´t come up with that earlier). I got REALLY nervous at DOOM so I autobombed a lot more than I needed to, but this will leave me some room for my next runs. I wasn´t expecting to break 1bil so early, let alone with this score.

Other new things I added is not killing the drone at Cinderella but keeping the lockshot at the boss, then bomb and move below into the "cell" of bullets when he slowly moves up. It´s pretty risky but it adds quite some nice boxes and you can finish that form before he starts his "streaming trap and bouncing sausages" pattern (I just can´t handle that).

In general I find it a lot less frustrating to concentrate on bosses one at a time in Training mode over and over again and then attempt a full run a couple of days later than just keep doing one full run after another - the improvements feel just a lot more satisfying and seeing the hard work pay off in one seamless run feels great.

Oh, and I did this score while taking a dump. It´s just pure magic!

How are all you people getting such massive scores? I'm doing Novice right now just to practice/refine scoring, and this is my best score:

Novice - kengou - 76072605 - B - ALL

I've been making sure to point-blank everything with lock-on, and killing all portions of a boss with regular shot except for the final form of each boss which I kill with lock-on so that I use my multiplier. I'm not sure what else I should be doing. Maybe only using my lock-on for finishing jamadhar so my multiplier will be higher?

You don't want to finish anything with the lock shot except Doom, otherwise you're losing points. You should have 20 lives as well, and be warned, tapping the lock shot button for more chips is a large part of the scores on the lower difficulties.

Getting a little better, thanks for the advice MMM!

Novice - Kengou - 175456430 - B - ALL

I'm coming for that #11 spot! If I could only avoid making stupid mistakes at Jamadhar...

That really sucks, I hate doing that. Whenever I try, the boss times out because I'm not killing it fast enough.

double dang! I thought my hard B was the one i would have held onto, not hard A. you must be missing something major if you can't destroy it like you destroyed the others. you beat my hard B by a good 60,000. It's probably cinderella's first form that's letting me barely stay ahead. Congrats on decimating my scores again MMM

Your post is a little confusing...

I'm not 100% sure on scoring, but I believe the standard shot type should be used to increase the counter and then the lock on to destroy. Proximity is important for high chip numbers and point multiplying.

And afaik, bombing is integral to boosting score in KDL - you should try to use them all on large bullet spreads as it turns the on screen bullets into points!

in my experience, here's the best strategy for scoring.

1. stay close to whatever you are targeting so that you consistently get x5 chips.

2. use the lock shot button tapping on everything. this will keep the enemy alive longer and allow you to boost your multiplier. two things to remember with this:
a.) you need to know exactly how much energy the thing you are
targeting has so you can switch to spread shot to finish it.
b.) you need to figure out how much time you can dedicate to milking
a particular section so that you can finsh all the sections before the
boss times out.

3. make a mental note of each individual section of a boss that you can target and milk them one at a time. sometimes you will have to work them in a specific order or else blowing up one section can take away a connected target.

4. always finish the boss and each individual part with the spread shot to keep your multiplier up.

5. bomb for more multiplier. find the densest patterns the boss has and save your bombs for them.

6.don't autobomb or die ever. it will pretty much ruin your entire run. use the training mode if you're stuck on something.

that's pretty much all i've been able to figure out. if anyone can add or revise something i've written i'd appreciate it.

Finally all my hard work has payed off!

novice - Kengou - 226,329,185 - B - ALL

hard A - Kengou - 100,555,315 B - ALL

Interestingly, I've found that I get higher scores by tapping lock-on for as long as possible so that the boss times out, rather than killing it. Even on the final boss in Novice, it timed out from tap-shooting it and it never even displayed the multiplier on the explosion, but I still got a very high score, higher than I had from killing it without tap-shooting it. Perhaps the phrase 'you only apply the multiplier by killing things with lock-on shot' is misleading? Or am I wrong about something?
