Yeah I know I should have just left it saying it will only be interlaced and not added a resolution.

If you are selecting the scart option in the 360 menu no matter how the cable is wired you will be getting an interlaced signal.

You can NOT get 240p or 480p or any 'p' at all via RGB scart or any form of hacked cable derrivative.

Quick and semi-related question: is it a current trend in Japan to create demonic-looking female characters wielding giant pairs of shears/scissors? (I was about to mention Suiseiseki but then remembered it was her sister that uses the shears.)

That's cool, the original Death Smiles is damn cool, but the MBL is a much better version. Still don't think much of the score system, though.

While we're at it, does anyone have a movie of the powered up Tyrannosatan? Or can say how much harder he is?

Epic rumor is epic. I'm not much of a collector so this would make me terribly happy. *crossing fingers*

So to buy this outside of Japan we'll have to create a Japanese XBL account, somehow add Japanese points (without using a non-Japanese credit card since they wont' allow them, perhaps buy a points card from Japan), and then purchase on the marketplace? Have I got the gist of it?

It'd be nice if they'd release it as a data disk that you could install the update from, too, like Ubisoft did with GRAW 2.

But then, a lot of things'd be nice that will never happen.

Death Smiles is still coming out on disc,

but the Mega Black Label version is downloadable content for the disc?

I really thought making that FAQ would've stopped all the questions.

Amazing news, though. Nothing like this has ever been attempted before. If this is a success, Cave may look into releasing their other titles for the 360, ie. MMP, Pink Sweets, Futari, and Galuda II.

Except for the fact that what you asked is exactly what I answered in the thread.
Most of the DLC available is region locked as well, so this means you won't be able to purchase DLC inside Japanese games when using an American account UNLESS the game and content is the same and is uploaded to the US marketplace's servers. Outside of games, you can purchase DLC at the marketplace by using points, providing you either have a credit card or points voucher. Points are also region locked, so American point cards won't work with Japanese accounts. Points can be bought from here. As of late 2007, it's no longer possible to add a foreign credit card to a Japanese 360 account, but existing foreign credit cards on JP accounts will still work.

Yeah, thanks for putting the FAQ together. That's where I got the info from, but as it's a bit wordy I was making sure I was clear on it.

In what way? I don't see this as being super different than most DLC additions/tweaks, though I'm creaming myself hard.

For PCB owners, an upgrade would mean spending a couple of grand for Mega Black Label. I mean I like goth lolis, but financially I just couldn't do such a thing. For Japanese 360 owners, it means a simple microtransaction of probably 800 or 1200 points. I'm really looking forward to this now, I just need to find somewhere that's still taking preorders.

If this is a success, Cave might release their other stuff with DLC following in the same manner. Mushihimesama Futari w/ optional 1.5 and BL DLC, for example.

If that ever happened I hope that 1.0, and not 1.5, would be the the optional component, heh heh. I don't know how much chance this has of becoming a trend, though (cool as it sounds), considering that DOJ's black label is getting a stand-alone release - then again, it's too early to say which one is more likely to become the "standard".

Well, the reason they're including it as DLC is so they don't have to do another retail release for MBL, but can delay its effective console release until the arcade version is no longer profitable. Plus, the console release might increase MBLs popularity in the arcades.

That scenario doesn't really exist for DOJ or Futari. Though, there's always cash-money.

its that popular huh.. i was kinda hoping for something else but yeah, good stuff, the original is brilliant! :)

ed: just as some background fluff i showcased deathsmiles (as well as a few other cave shmups) at an anime fair this past weekend and it was extremely popular apparently. (didnt attend myself)

search for uppcon09 to find out more about the event.

all the smups were quite popular actually (DS, MFBL, DDPDFK, MMP) shmups are definetly coming back into the mainstream approval a big way, its a real shame the port is going to be region locked as i reckon it would do rather well otherwise.
