HRAP PS2 / 360 pad modding Questions
I plan on getting a J360 when DDPDOJX comes out, but want to play ona joystick.. I was wondering how much space is in the HRAP ps2 stick to wire a wireless 360 controller into it..
I would buy one of those adapters, but the combined cost of a wired 360 pad and the adpter is a bit ridiculous.. might as well buy a whole new stick, which I dont really have the space for..
so..
1. has anyone attempted to put a wireless 360 pad into a HRAP?
2. does anyone have a photo of the TOP inside of an ps2 HRAP so I can see if theres space?? I dont have the tool to open the top controller yet, and i'd rather not buy one unless I know theres adequate space.. cheers!

I am also looking into this - simply to get the stick I want
Do NOT get the adapters mayflash/sniper - they all have lag due to update times - approx 30-33 ms if memory serves...
There is a tool/hack combination that was being developed primarily for mice (XIM 1 (still lag) - XIM 2 (promised no lag) in particular) but it's essentially more money and more soldering and is kind of a slow project ... and uses a pc to drive the software.
Been meaning to get on it a bit more, so I'm no expert but know about this article if its of help -

... doesn't look like the controller takes up much space at all...
Hope this helps

Thanks, I'd already seen that, yeah the SF sticj seems to be vast inside.. I guess I'll need to get the tool to take the top off my HRAP and see whats in there.
the process is pretty simple, I've wired pads into sticks before...and at least with a wireless pad you don't have to worry about more cables coming oout the back of the stick.. although I'm still thinking how I can recharge it..

Plenty of space inside the HRAP too:

Also, you should remember that the original x360 pad (dunno about the wireless one) doesn't use common ground for every button. This complicates things considerably, because you can't make a dual-pcb stick using such pad.

yep, it certainly looks roomy in the HRAP!
well, I think I will go with a wired controller, it seems to be less hassle as the HRAP already has a ps2 cable, no harm in adding another - that way I don't have to worry about battery recharging, and also use it on my PC without an adapter.
Alas i'm in Japan, so I guess it will be luck of the draw if I get a new MS pad with common ground...
@RGB - what prevents you making a dual PCB stick w/o common ground?

No common ground basically means that the signal lines on the pcb aren't low when the buttons are pressed. In HRAP they are low when pressed.
Since both pcbs have to be powered simultaneously to work properly, pressing a button would result in a short circuit.
Maybe there is a way to bypass this obstacle using some additional electronics, but I don't know how to do it.
It's easier to just buy a MadCatz controller which has common ground, probably cheaper too.

anyone know if the XFPS 3.0 Sniper Plus is any good?
on a side note, is it worth me spending lots on that and then tracking down a ps2 saturn joypad or are the xbox 360 pads good for shmups? so far i havent found a better pad than the saturn one for use on ps2 just wondering if same holds true for the xbox?

So, I hear, at least that the official pink and blue MS controllers are also common ground, I'm not sure if I can find a madcats controller here easily, so this may be the easiest option, don't know if you can shed any light on this....
seesm like its gonna be a tricky job if I go for it....

I crumbled out of sheer boredom today and bought my JP 360 tthat i was gonna get on DDPDOJ launch day, and a light blue wireless pad..
both the blue pad, and the bundled controller are the new commond ground controllers... i got the ace combat 6/katamari value pack.
too bad it came with a "D" video connector instead of a component cable... won't be playing anything on it for a while, but at least I can start hacking up the pad...
