shit's crazy I love it, thanks for the recommend
Glad you like it! I figure this is one of those bands you'll either love at first listen, or just spontaneously vomit at the sound of them
Johann Johannsson - IBM 1401 : A User's Manual
---------- just awesome, beautiful compositions, with what appears to be a reading of a computer manual over parts of it
Os Mutantes - S / T
---------- found it by accident, and am enjoying it immensely. cover art was quite striking.
Abruptum - Evil Genius
---------- after reading "Lords of Chaos," i went through some searching to hear the bands referenced in it. after i heard them i was really turned off by it. seeing the cd in the record shop i frequent made me reconsider, and at the very least, i find myself intrigued.
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey
---------- as most do, i heard about the black metal material first, and after cultivating a taste for that, i found about their earlier, death-metal material. i like it a lot. one of the things i find most striking about it, is the stark contrast in Fenriz' drum work. the black metal stuff tends to be as basic as basic can be (effective, but still basic). soulside journey on the other hand shows some pretty severe work. i don't think i've ever heard someone reign in their ability this much, in service to a specific end.
also, i noticed on the new darkthrone that fenriz is not playing anymore.
Over the last few days I've been spinning Carcass' Necroticism a lot.
Currently I'm listening to the new of Montreal album Skeletal Lamping which I really rate. Quite eclectic and varied, as well as being rather explicit. Some great funky moments too.
I plan on picking up the new Sunn 0))) vinyl only release tomorrow. I'm hoping I can get a black vinyl copy as I'm sick of noisy Southern Lord coloured pressings. It's doesn't matter too much due to the content but the grey vinyl for Boris' Smile is too crackly for my liking. Same with the clear vinyl on OM's Pilgrimage.
I also really like Fleet Foxes, nice melodies and reverb drenched vocals. Makes me think of Sun Records stuff in a strange way.
Best thing I've heard recently is Jay Munly's 'Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots'. Mixture of Americana, Southern Gothic, Folk... stuff. Or something like that. Intense and utterly uncompromising.

Great album, the last song is particularly moving. Make sure you check out Dis if you haven't already, it's much more pop oriented but still quite good. He's got a new release up sometime in November.

Good choice.
Recommendations without me saying "like Gaza"? I listened to that a bunch last month.
Julie Tippetts - Sunset Glow
Morbid Angel - BATS
Essra Mohawk - Primordial Lovers -- awesome, definitely a strong Laura Nyro vibe. Pretty much stuck on the first 6-8 tracks and there are 22.

How's the Julie Tippett? I've only ever heard her playing back up to Keith or on a Robert Wyatt live CD, but I like what I've heard.

I'll take the lazy route and compare it to Rock Bottom, almost as good.
Mark Smith & Ed Blaney CD on Voiceprint which is OK but nothing too special. Not close to anything like PBL or Hex and not particularly Fall-esqe but seems quite fun and pleasingly abstract in places.
I played with my band Stray Dog Cafe the other night alongside an excellent instrument swapping 2 piece called Blood Moon. Their album is a noisy-but-not-noise extended plod through slow build guitar and delay patterns.
Also picked up a Sunroof! and Kemialliset Ystavat split on Fat Cat but haven't given it a proper listen yet.
I've been listening to Rock Bottom a lot too so Tippett may well be my bag.

I dunno, they're pretty unique. Maybe Deadguy... newer Ion Dissonance... maybe Coalesce or One Dead Three Wounded, though those lean more hardcore.
Book of Black Earth - The Feast
Weedeater - ...And Justice for Y'all
Winter - Into Darkness/Eternal Frost
Ultralord - We Hate You and Hope You Die
Leechmilk/Sofa King Killer - Guilty of Sloth
Also still listening to the Deathpile - G.R. album. One of the finest pieces of power electronics/noise I've ever laid ears to.
Nobuko Hori - xtoyourmilkyhair - One of the best noise(y) albums I've heard in ages. In turn both blissfully pretty and painfully discordant, yet always exciting. Very highly recommended.
Times New Viking - Rip It Off - Lovely Noisy rock in the same vein as the Mouldy Peaches (and more recently, No Age).
Germlin - Watermelon Dude Zone - Can't wait for the new album
Witch - s/t
Gallhammer - Beyond the Hatred
In Memory of Celtic Frost
Cursed - One
Anal Cunt - Defenders of the Hate
Xasthur - A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors
The Mass - Holocene #6
dunno if theyve made a full album (?) but a friend burned me a DVD of MP3s, love this band man.. awesome!
Yes, they have a few albums... Including The Pizza EP, which was originally a limited pressing 10" picturedisk (of a pizza) that came in a pizza box... I note this, because I think it's one of the coolest packaging ideas for a record EVER. More commonly, it was released on CD, in a sleeve that looked like a pizza box. Not as cool
Anywho... My favorite record at the moment would have to be:
Marnie Stern - This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That
Amazing to see some actual good music being listed here. I can't believe people here like Agoraphobic Nosebleed! I've liked them for quite a while now, Jay Randall lives in my hometown. Great to see bands like Lightning Bolt mentioned here too. albums I've been listening to lately -
marnie stern-this is it...
aphex twin-richard d. james album
nightwish-oceanborn
sebadoh-III
sonic youth-murray street
and some of my all-time favorites -
the misfits-anything during the danzig era
agoraphobic nosebleed-altered states of america
slayer-reign in blood
dinosaur jr.-you're living all over me
husker du-zen arcade
bright eyes-lifted
the smiths-the queen is dead
Ocean - Pantheon of the Lesser
Burn it Down - Let the Dead Bury the Dead
Burn it Down - Eat Sleep Mate Defend
Send More Paramedics - The Awakening
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
LSD March - Suddenly, Like Flames
Venomous Concept - Poisonous Apple
Mouth of the Architect - Quietly
Intronaut - Prehistoricisms
