GBA Homebrew Recommendations

Post by alpha5099 »

druuna brought Super Star Shooter Advance to my attention (http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=390) and I had to download a GBA emulator to play it. I'm trying to avoid using it for commercial games (although I've been enjoying finally getting to play Gradius Galaxies, I'll be sure to buy the real thing soon as I can), so I was hoping some people could point me in the direction of other good homebrew games. Shmups, 2D platformers, puzzle games, whatever.

Look through the archives on www.gbadev.org or the gba section on http://www.pdroms.de/.

Puzzlewise, there's TOD (tenis on drugs), a tetris clone that uses sprite scalling to fuck with the screen constantly and suppossedly mimic the effect of playing tetris on drugs. Gimmicky, but fun.

Then there's a perfect port of Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble's arcade mode. Good stuff.

On the shmup side of things, we have a horivert series called Uranus(1/2/EV) which are god awful. LONG levels, repetative enemy waves, and some horribly wonky hit detection in part 2. Then again, they're all free so I guess we shouldn't complain.
I think they released a new one recently so try it and tell us if its any good.

Otherwise, you'll find a shitload of pong/tetris/myfirst game type of stuff. The occasional gem pops up occasionally though.
