Gradius Level in LBP

Post by BulletMagnet »

I don't have a PS3 and have no idea how one could pull off something like this in Little Big Planet, but I figured you guys would still enjoy seeing this. Wonder if any more shmup-themed levels might be in the works?

Anyways, link is here.

You should really grab Blast Works if you're interested in this sort of stuff.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Ok, now this is awesome!

I think I'm gonna boot up my ps3 & search for this level right now.

thx for the link.

EDIT: Hmm... can't find it. I did find the user (RRR30000) and he has a gradius level up,
but its definitely not that one & it's pretty unplayable...

I was impressed that this sort of thing is possible but it still isn't exactly anything but a crude approximation of the level layout. The motion of the ship looked momentum-based, the bullets were affected by gravity, and there were a few other little annoyances. If the LBP editor is limited in this way I don't see anyone making full, fun side-scrolling shmups that play really well beyond this sort of diversionary level recreations.

Yes...I think the whole reason this is cool is because Little Big Planet is far from a "game maker", it's a platformer with a nice level editor. The fact he could do all that with the tools provided is freaking awesome. As a shmup, yes, a little questionable, but it was made with very non-shmup tools.

:D

That's just amazing. Unbelievable what some people can do with such a limited editor. Kinda reminds me of insane things made in Spore editors.

Are those turrets built-in or did he find a way to make objects spawn other objects like that?

I think you kinda missed the point there.

Cute. A true next-gen S.E.U.C.K. would be awesome though.

I don't get it.. it's a level editor for a platformer, right? But you can make your own kit entirely so that feels like it's just a random level editor and not associated with the real game..

Not as impressive, but someone attempted a Space Invaders level as well - too bad he had trouble getting the camera to show everything at once.

Nice idea and maybe well executed considering the tools....

but come on.... the seems like major suckage to me.,
Would play this if they paid me to. (exaggeration here to emphasize the suckiness of this)!

I know nothing about little big planet but I think this looks awesome for what it is. Very cute and it has a certain coolness factor in my book. Its like Gradius as a puppet show.

The Gradius level is pretty hilarious, because of all the bizarre chicanery that went into designing it (I have no idea how any of this works, myself, but it's obvious that it takes advantages of a lot of little quirks when he shoots all of those turrets with one "bullet" that runs into the rock and falls down).

Even funnier IMO is this "Tetris" which not only features a bunch of physics oddities that make it nothing like the game it's based on, but gets absolutely nuts once he hits "level 2" :P
