Has anyone patched Gaiares
OK, I find this game to be pretty interesting, but I just find it impossibly hard. I'm like that reviewer on GameFAQs that never got past stage 2.
I know there is a cheat where you're invincible, but I would like to know if there is a version where you don't have to restart the area when you die.
Does anyone know of a patched version like this? Hell, I have known of a patched Little Ralph. Surely, someone has patched this relatively common game.

For some reason I thought you were going to ask about a patch to make it prettier or give it a better translation or something...I don't know of any trainer; if there is one it should be included with the latest GoodGen set as a [h] marked ROM.
hard?
use the code to fully enable your TOZ.
that should make it more manageable.

Weapon Select and Power-up: During gameplay press Start to pause, then hold Up and press A. Each time you press A, you'll switch weapons. Unpause the game to see your weapon. A.
To receive a full power-up, pause the game hold Up, and press A, A. When you return to the game fire your TOZ.
To recieve a special super-charged weapon called the T-Braster. Fire your TOZ six times without hitting any enemies

As far as I know, no. I think doing this with some games would actually make them better games. Now, I don't have a problem with a lot of checkpoint starters, but Gaiares is just....well, it's beyond me. I can't beat stage 2. If someone sees this, and has the knowhow...PATCH THIS GAME.ED-057 wrote:That's an interesting idea. Are there other shmups that have been patched for instant-respawn instead of checkpoints?

Yes, it sure is. It ends with you fighting a giant mermaid in a clam. I was pretty surprised by that. lolPixel_Outlaw wrote:My memory is a bit fuzzy on this but isn't stage 2 the one with the ice mountains and the dragon snake thing?
On an unrelated note, the first stage has great music.

If you hate stage 2, you'll really hate Stage 5. (Losing a ship at the boss requires going back and refighting a midboss before reaching the boss once again).
Instant respawn would actually be worse for this game because it would force a level 1 Vulcan with a single bomb type missile whenever a ship was lost during a boss battle. True, the checkpoints can definitely be frustrating, but there is also always a chance to power up the ship (even to level 3 Vulcan with double missiles) in areas just before a boss battle.
Anyway, find out where your problem actually is in stage 2. Here are some pointers.
Make sure you are finishing stage 1 with H-laser, that helps a lot.
TOZing the flying satellite things gets S-laser, but it's not really necessary.
Make sure to TOZ all shield elements and don't pick them up. TOZing a shield element gets a 5-hit shield.
Definitely get the V-laser from the snake mid-boss--make sure it's full power and you'll be able to shoot through the solid parts of the terrain.
Get rid of P-Cannon and E-smash, if they are accidentally picked up, as soon as possible. (P-Cannon is usable, but weak. E-smash isn't really that much of an effective shield when the button is held down and has almost no firepower strength when it fires after releasing the fire button.)
DO NOT HAVE V-LASER when fighting the boss (otherwise it will take forever for the clamshell to open up just from missile hits, and then the mermaid boss charges in towards the ship once the clamshell opens up.). Use the G-Beam instead, keep close to the boss and dodge the laser beams when the clamshell is closed, and then nail the boss with G-beam hits once the clamshell is opened (just keep far enough from the boss so that the attacks can be dodged in time).
Once past stage 2, here's one tip for Stage 3: don't power up the T-missile to level 3. The level 3 T-missile speed is way too slow to be effective, despite the extra power of the missiles. Just keep it at level 2 and the firing rate will be fast enough and the missiles will still be powerful enough.

i`m playing Gaiares with emulator so what should i do just save state and load it over and over
usually i`m abusing this feature very much especially when fighting against boss, after i have succes on dodging enemy attack, i`ll do save state. coward ? i don`t refuse to be called that way. i`m just too eager to know the ending
