DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)

Post by Ravid »

Please post your Dodonpachi scores to =SNC='s new high score thread. Thanks!

Image

Lets have yet another credit at DoDonPachi!!!

1 credit only, all options default (except autofire, which is allowed). For the moment, I will be adding any scores over 40mil to the table.

I may ask you for an replay (.inp file) at my discretion to confirm your score, so if you're scoring high (especially over 100,000,000) I would ask you to record your runs.
Obviously for people not using MAME, a photo of the high score board will suffice.

I will most likely accept one showing a similar score; this is just to avoid drama like in previous threads. For recording inps many people use WolfMAME version 0.99. Later versions don't seem to support save states in Dodonpachi, for those of you that like to practice that way.

THIS JUST IN: lagless MAME removes 1 frame of input lag from DDP, leaving only 1 (the minimum possible). I haven't tried it myself, but supposedly it's a whole new playing experience, and of course I will accept inps recorded with this version.

If anyone takes first place (lol) they will require an inp of the successful run. There is now a selection of replays available for download at the bottom.

NEW HIGH SCORE THREAD TIME
Apologies to nj, Shalnn, and jpj, who were knocked off the bottom in the last update. Now get posting!

Edit: Congratulations to nj, who slipped back onto the board after I removed a duplicate entry!

Some scores that were 1-ALL are wrongly listed as reaching stage 6 here. Other than that good job~!

My score is listed twice on the score table. It was also listed twice in the previous high score thread but I never noticed. Also, the max chain on my older score is listed as 140 when actually it was higher than 270. Not that it matters though.

The game's high score board lists 1-ALLs as just stage 6 iirc, so that was my thinking there. If people grossly object to this, I'd be happy to change it back.

I think 1-ALL is more descriptive.

There's a world of difference between reaching stage 6 and archieving a 1-ALL. It'd be more appropriate to list which one the person managed to get.

EDIT: Might as well post my crappy score:

Ruldra - 35'399'850 - C-S - 2-1 - 347 Hit

50th place get!

Do the individual boards have any place caps? If you don't place on the main board, do you still place on the individual boards?

OK, updated. Sorry again, nj. I restored the old format for stage reached; I guess there's no harm in including that information since it's available.

For the moment, I'm capping the individual ship tables to 5 entries. I may rethink this at some point. If you want to submit a score for the type B board that doesn't make the main table, I don't see why I shouldn't include it.

Ten sounds like a good number.

I have nothing for B that goes over 20 million, unfortunately. Maybe I'll work something out later. I *do* need to 1cc this.

I got 48-something million with B-L a while ago but I reformatted and thus lost the screencap :?

here's my contribution to B-L :
PROMETHEUS - 148,277,600 - B-L - 2-6 - 473

doh, almost beat BR1 ! I tried to just follow the A-L routes and it works pretty well, for both chaining and survival. However "pretty well" is rarely enough to get something done right in dodonpachi so I break a chain or die here and there. Anyway, was kind of fun. Shouldn't do as well with C-S, as the A-L routes shouldn't work at all for that ship ~!

uh, I recorded it as I do with every run, so there's the replay : http://www.mediafire.com/?igytwjd3nyb

They don't. Every once in a while I'll play C-S just for shiggles, and the result is always horrifying. And actually the thing that gives me the most trouble with figuring out how to chain with C-S isn't the speed of the ship so much as it is the activation speed on the laser. Shot-type's laser activates so bleeding slow I don't know how C-S people manage to hold their chains through certain parts of the game =/

Also, there are a number of boss patterns that I dodge normally by relying on the speed of A-L to manipulate where their bullets go. Without being able to manipulate them due to the speed (or lack thereof) in C-S, I generally just eat shit =P Not to mention how much longer certain big targets live.

Mind you, I don't actually ruin my gameplay by using C-S very frequently... The last time I was goofing around with C-S was to help a friend on another message board with some stage 3 and 4 strategies, and I realized that my A-L survival tips might not apply -_^

Yeah, that's what's cool about the duality A-L / C-S in Dodonpachi, you get very different stuff if you watch a replay of A-L and a replay of C-S.

I've yet to see a decent C-S run. There was one somewhere I tried to download and watch at work, but the work comp didn't have the codecs for it, and I keep forgetting to try it when I'm at home.

And now I don't even remember where that replay was o_O

I finally improved my score by a lousy 2M or so.

RWM - 93,577,860 - 2-3 - A-L - 490

http://www.mediafire.com/?5warcx2fzmo

If only I could get past my problems on GOD DAMN STAGE FUCKING 1-5!!#@$!^!#$^

Run 1 of today. No-miss stages 1-3, die once stupidly on stage 4 boss, die twice in stage 5 *grumble* and then however many deaths in stage 6 to bring me down to nothing, then finished on the stage 2-1 mid-boss.

Run 2 of today (see replay). No-miss stages 1-4, die THREE GOD DAMN TIMES IN 15 SECONDS ON STAGE 5... who cares about the what happens after that (I think just one death on stage 6 boss because I got brave with the final pattern).

I swear to whichever god/gods you believe in, one of these days stage 1-5 is going to cause me to do something violent. Probably to something harder than my fist, and I am going to regret it. But it's bound to happen.

Edit: When I watched the replay to get my score, I of course used f10 to speed it up. I've never watched an entire run in fast-forward before. It was pretty entertaining, actually =)

if you want Ravid you could include a link to the replay and emulator next to the scores that were recorded and posted with a replay, MARP-style. That'd be convenient. I don't know if links work inside "code" beacons though.

Speaking of potential for much more, I had a really excellent run where I had 35M by the end of stage 3, and got a 650ish chain on stage 4, and could have potentially broken 100M pretty easily. Unfortunately, the d-pad (or more specifically the button beneath) on my USB Saturn pad stuck for just long enough to get me killed on the 4th boss. It was so infuriating, that I lost my concentration, and performed pretty poorly for the rest of the run.

On a brighter note, while I was practicing that trouble section of stage 5, I finally figured out what I was doing wrong when the conga line of green ships come (before the hard part), and why I couldn't stay to the right side long enough to keep my chain. Now I can... sometimes keep my chain, rather than never =D So I can conceivably manage a 600-700 chain on stage 5 now, which would make it so that the gods and luck willing, I might even be able to break 150M as I am now.

I know I've said this before, but If only I could compile all of it into a single really slick run =D

I've still yet to clear the first loop without using any bombs though, but I AM clearing it more and more frequently, at least. And with FEWER bombs.

/rant

My apologies, I always clutter up the score threads with my rambling ventings

I hope you're not so lazy that you're not even practicing that little part in 1-5 with the lines of green butterfly ships with save states ! Takes a few seconds to set up, and praticing this for just 10 or 20 minutes would help a great deal.

Don't worry about it, it livens the place up :D

@PROMETHEUS: I'd include the links, except some upload sites take down files that aren't downloaded for a while. Does mediafire do this? I will include any replay links that promise to be persistent.
I watched your B-L run, and it was interesting to see how the differences caused you problems. The way I see it, in order to compensate for the B-L's lack of speed you have to make use of the controllable options to continue chains (also making sure not to blow up popcorn enemies with random option spreads). It looks like B would be the hardest ship to survive the latter half of the second loop with, since it loses speed on the A-L without any great increase in firepower.

Updated btw, sorry to see you go again Ruldra.

While I still don't savestate practice very often, I do have saves at various points through the game in case I feel like it. There are two such saves that I use fairly frequently. One starts right after the two powerup ships in stage 5 before the green butterflys (congaline), and the other is right at the stage 6 boss =P

It was during some savestate practice that I figured out what I was doing wrong at the green butterflies (for score... survival is fine). Though, I still have a hard time connecting the turrets + powerup ship to the initial popcorn of "The Hard Part." I either leave too much alive, and find it difficult to survive, or kill off too much and can't keep the combo meter going for that first little copter in the middle =/
