Very Hard:
Plasmo - 24,928,190 - Stage 4

Will add tables for Score Attack EX stages if there's any demand. (I doubt that, lol)

BLAM, 1cc.
I nearly no missed up to stage 4 lol.
Nice little game.
Maybe the EX stages can give me an additional challenge.

EX2 Very Hard
Plasmo - 6,094,441

I'm having a lot of problems with the first very big ship right before the midboss. (and the midboss itself, too ,of course)
However, this time I was able to no miss no bomb up to the midboss.

EX2 Very Hard
Plasmo - 13,863,885

I only used ONE bomb for the midboss' first attack. Otherwise this run was perfect. Except for the boss, which is still a bombfest. But I'm quite satisfied with my score.

EX3 Very Hard
Plasmo - 3,413,851

No Miss/No Bomb up to the boss. It's quite difficult to get a good score here, because of the lack of big enemies that bullet cancel everything on screen after its death.

EX4 Very Hard
Plasmo - 2,005,507

Again a No Miss/No Bomb up to the endboss and again a stage where it's not really possible to get high scores.

Am I already done with this game now? :(
Please give me some competition or something.

Had a few goes with this since this thread popped up:

Normal:
crithit5000 - 12,781,420 - 4

I keep playing when I'm tired and tend to die stupid deaths while hoarding bombs. :(

Just to see what the maximum score is in Normal difficulty:

Normal:
Plasmo - 44,262,057 - ALL

Died once because I'm mentally retarded. One credit takes like 50 minutes, score attacking the EX stages is MUCH more fun.
Why you play this game Plasmo?
Because it's fun and doesn't take too much skill, which I don't have.

Phew. I 1CC'd this game on this run. Wow, Plasmo was right. This game really DOESN'T take a whole lot of skill to 1CC.

Now I just need to improve my scoring on Normal, then I'll move on to harder modes.

No Miss/No Bomb up to the boss (of course). I was quite aggressive before the midboss, but did a bit sloppier afterwards. :?

no-missed up until the 8th mid-boss and died a dumb death with 4 bombs in stock. It was my first time playing the second loop so I didn't go as much speed boost as I did on the first. If I'd just known how laughable the 250'000 extend bonus for 5 lives would've been I'd just have gone all out with getting the points even if I died few times.

Just did a No Miss EX1 on very hard replay. I unfortunately didn't break my highscore because I destroyed the midboss too early + various other mistakes. If anyone's interested I can upload it.
Does anybody have even touched the EX levels besides me anyway?? They are much better than the main game!

Still too busy with 1ccing the second loop. Haven't had much time to play lately :(
But even after that I probably will take some runs with the main game to improve score before playing the ex levels.

EDIT: And yea. I would love to see your replay :)

EX1 Very Hard
Plasmo - 30,859,427 - Replay

No Miss!
Did everything right AND had a high counter before the midboss (11k). A more or less perfect run for me. Luckily I recorded it, too. Hopefully this will give some idea on how to play XOP black on very hard the right way. Have fun watching!

How to watch a replay:
Put the .dmo file in your XOP black directory and start the game. Go to "Extras" -> "Play a demo". Then type in the filename and Enter.

Hopefully, I can improve a little bit more. I fucked up severely on Stage 4, both loops.

Pretty pathetic. I've never played before and I didn't figure out the scoring mechanic thing until the end of stage 2. But it's my first high score posting!

I played through the EX stages once and they seemed pretty challenging. I'll try to get better runs later when I have time. Also some of the EX stage tracks sounded like they were straight ripped from Tyrian but maybe that's just me..

Also, could someone explain the scoring system for me? Only one I figured out so far was that comboing kills fast gets you a tiny bit of bonus points. What are the counters on the upper right corner and how do they exactly work?

I'll take a shot.

I think the counter in the extreme upper right is the number of discs/coins picked up. I'm not sure of the number directly below that.

From what I've gathered so far, the closer you are to an enemy when you make a kill, the more points you earn. I'm not sure about a comboing/chaining system yet.

The number below the disc/DAL (thats what the blue discs are called) is the combo counter.
It increses when you kill enemys in a row and QUICKLY falls back to zero.
It goes higher when you kill alot of enemy quick after each other. The more enemys you can kill in a short time the higher the counter will go and will raise the points you get from killing.
When a short moment passes without an enemy beeing killed the counter goes back to zero extremely fast.

So when you have time to look there it probably will be zero because then their is no action on the screen ;)

Hope that makes things clearer. If not ask again.

@Plasmo: Awesome replay. Thanks for sharing. A very nice run.

The upper counter is, as Square King said, the number of DAL chips collected. The lower counter indicates your chain reaction time.

There are three ways to increase your score:

-Shoot multiple enemies at once to build up your chain reaction counter. This counter will decrease quickly once you're not shooting anything. This will give you some extra points, but is only useful in stage 1 because you won't find enough enemies throughout the whole game for a lucrative chain.

-A destroyed enemy gives more points the closer you are. Again this is only a tiny increase in score and not really worth it.

-The main scoring system: Collect DAL chips. Your score will increase exponentially the more chips you get. A high DAL chip counter will give your score a great boost. It resetts once you die and it gets cut in half each time you use a bomb.

So scoring's pretty simple. Never die, never bomb and collect as much chips as you can.

EDIT:
bob was faster
