Cabs - Old School VS. New School

Post by poodude »

I've been noticing the trends of the newer arcade cabinets, and I have to say I'm not too impressed. Is it just me or is everything turning into a disjointed monstrosity?

Examples: Sega Lindbergh

Viewlix

Naomi Universal

What happened to making cabs as one solid streamlined piece? I don't know much about the current state of arcade hardware over in Japan, but as things tend to move over to HD, these newer cabs seem to be taking residence.

Long Live Medium Resolution!!!!!

It's just you. Especially regarding the naomi universal - that's one of the cleanest cab designs ever. Form follows function.

I also have a soft spot for older candy cabs, but those Naomi cabinets are so slick, man. I'd kill for one of those.

I'm with poodude on this one and this is exactly why I've bought 2 Blast City over 2 Net City :)

The title of this thread really threw me off. This is the stuff I have at my house.

I've always wanted a naomi universal bad.

I agree about the lindberghs, it's like they didn't even try. However I really like the vewlix, except for those half-life controls.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I prefer a solid one piece cabinet with a big old SD screen. Also, Half-Life arcade game WTF?

I agree. Even the naomi looks ridiculous.
They grow a bit on you once you've seen them 100's of times though.
