Anyone know of a glitch fix for Raiden III (PC)?

Post by Square King »

At least with Vista, some of R3's graphics are chopped off. The player's ship should look like this:

But it looks like this on Vista:

I tried the standard fix (running in XP compat mode and as an admin) but no luck. Anyone else out there with the same problem?

I have not found a fix for this myself. I was really pissed to find that half of my ship was missing too. :(

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Your pictures aren't showing up for me Square King.

I decided to reinstall this to see if I noticed any problems since I'm running Vista.

This is what the ships look like to me:

I don't know if there's any problem with the ship graphics since I've never played the PCB or PS2 port.

Are you running the latest Direct X? What are your graphic cards? Latest card drivers?

Being a smartass about the operating system does not solve the problem at hand.

The problem is running Raiden under Vista.

Yes, so what kind for graphic cards are you using?
Spongdangly's graphics look correct to me.

It runs fine for me in Vista Home Premium SP1. I have a built in Intel graphics chip in my laptop. I guess I'm running the latest drivers for + latest Direct X.

I have the latest Directx (I think...will double check. edit: running Directx 10) and video card drivers, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400, Vista 32bit, Intel Core 2 Duo, gig o' ram, etc.

Thanks for checking it out, spongdangly. Maybe I just need to tweak it a bit more. Dunno why the pics aren't working, though.

No problem, actually your pics are working now. Not sure why they weren't before.

It might be an issue with ATI cards. I'm using and AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ with a NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT OC and 2GB of ram. Also running Vista 32bit SP1.

I highly recommend upgrading to at least 2GB of ram. I don't know how your computer runs anything smoothly without it. I only have DirectX 9 though since my card doesn't support 10 (I don't think that would be the problem though).

Edit: Maybe you guys are getting glitches because you're not using the NOCD Patch. I doubt it but you never know.

Yeah, the X1400 isn't the most compatible card out there. This laptop's a few years old, but still going strong. I'm considering a ram upgrade because it'll be good for this system overall, but I dunno if that'll fix the graphics problem.

I'm running the game off of my hard drive, but I'll look around for the patch anyway.

I get a graphical glitch with this game on WinXP SP2, using an Arcade VGA (ATI) AGP graphics card. As I recall, the ship appears in an 'exploded view' at the end of level 1 and mid-way through level 2. Resolving this issue has been on my list of things to do for a few months now

this would be exactly why I don't play computer games. Yeah, I know I'm missing good stuff, but fact of the matter is theres so much good stuff out there, you're going to miss some of it no matter what. I've been tossing the idea of a new comp around, so maybe I'll get to do some catching up.

This looks like establishing a line of reason to me - take it from me, this kind of graphics glitch happens in PC games, but it's pretty uncommon. I can only think of a handful of games which have bigger compatibility than the usual resolution vs. HUD scaling issues. Aliens vs. Predator don't work with nVidia drivers; Condemned (the first one) has had light/shadow glitches for the last year or so, and I can't really think of much else.

I say get a decent enough PC, buy the old stuff at a discount, have fun, and then wait until the next cycle. Cost effective, and delicious!

I'm a fierce PC user... And, well, no platform is bug-free. =P Just look at the 360 Raiden that had to be patched in order to fix crashes and such. Well, I'm sure I read some people here had the game freezing or worse.

I've had no issues with any PC shooters (even with some of those obscure doujin games like End Effector or the recent Lovecraft-based stg "The Trapezohedron of the Darkness", yes, wtf) so far except due to japanese OS-specific related stuff: the Hatsune Miku stg (Hector39) runs through an engine called Tonyu, which is japanese-only and won't run with Applocale so you have to switch to jap settings. Oh, and Touhou 9 - Phantasmagoria of Flower View was a bit anal as well.

Shikigami No Shiro III, Ray Crisis and Raiden III, they all work like a charm (I have a GeForce 7300 with up to date drivers plus the latest Dx9 release)

Games like Exception and Ether Vapor seem to work perfect with Nvidia cards whereas games like HellSinker ran better with ATi cards (though a couple of days ago Ruminant's Whimper released a DX9 and Vista executable that makes the game run FREAKING FAST, bye bye to anything similar to occasional slowdowns now you can get the full and colourful mindfuck without losing frames)

I might re-install the game to check it... And, yeah, NOCD patches ftw. And Raiden ftw.

Hope you can get this bug fixed!

Ed Oscuro> Play Asia has the game... although I'm not sure if the price is or sounds right.

I'm sorry, but with X1400 nothing but problems await you. You can try various driver versions and find one that sucks least (sometimes old drivers work better). Also if you use Aero, try turning it off.

But the only reliable solution is: real computer. Laptops aren't gaming devices.

I recall that Dave K. uses a laptop setup on his Mame cabinet. If it works fine for him, it would equally work well for you. ^_~

Erm, what? Laptops have never been good gaming devices, NOT because they're portable and usually less powerful but because many of the graphics cards that come with laptops are not made for gaming.
Worstplayer is right, buying laptops for gaming is not only expensive but also a gamble. Expect performance problems and compatibility issues.

My laptop obviously isn't a gaming rig; I bought it for school, but maybe someday I can buy a 'real' computer and play with the big boys. I'll make sure to get an HP Blackbird because I have thousands just floating around in my bank account.

Raiden 3 isn't fucking Crysis. I doubt it's glitching solely because I'm using a laptop. Others have the same problem.

But if you have a laptop that you don't use for anything else laying around, it's nothing wrong with using it for playing games (as long as you don't get lags of course). My old Acer laptop from 2005 plays Raiden III and everything I wanna play from MAME without problems. So it's really a case-by-case thing. I don't say I would recommend getting a laptop JUST for gaming unless you know the model is capable of course.

You just answered your own question with that link. Vista, no fix available. Further discussion is pointless.

Thing is that at least two of us trying to help out in this thread uses Vista without seing the glitches. So my guess, however ignorant it may sound to some of you is that this is somehow a graphics driver / direct X problem. Or your graphics card is incompatible with Raiden III under Vista. Try XP on another partition, works for me for my Non-Vista compatible apps. But that won't guarantee it works flawlessly under XP with that graphics card...

Yeah, I'm positive it's a vid card problem. This isn't the first time. It was a nightmare trying to find the right driver for some other games and I had to roll back my system several times after making some unwanted changes. Not fun.

If you've got a nVidia card in your laptop, there's always new drivers:
