A Fantasm Soldier Returns

Post by FatalError »

Even if it's a celphone game, I was still excited about it:

So, any Valis fans out there?

Wow, I didn't know Telenet was still alive!? They were quite a nice company back in the 8 bit days and it's good to see they're still around! :D

That said, though I played FS Valis on the MSX a long time ago I can't remember being fond of it... :?

The only Valis games I've played have been III on Genesis and IV on SNES (blargh!). I liked III, it was pretty cool. My eyes are constantly peeled for good deals on the Turbo CD versions, which is what I'd prefer to own. Hooray for 16-bit cutscenes with what I assume is terrible voice-acting.

Question: can we even buy cellphones here (and in Europe) that can run all those neat games the Japanese have?

You would be correct in the terrible voice acting. It's got nothing on, oh say Last Alert, but it's still pretty bad.

I believe the voice acting problems are "fixed" in the Japanese versions. :wink:

Amazing, Telenet still is alive? Crazy stuff.

The Valis games are nothing more than mere Castlevania clones, but the idea of having a Japanese school-girl with a big sword play as the main character makes it more enticing ;) Valis III's the best, and Super Valis IV was just really lame...can't believe they made some one-dimensional girl the main character.

Those cutscenes on the Genesis were so beast back in the day. The bosses looked really cool too, too bad they were so easy to beat.

Telling from the screens, it looks like the mobile phone remake of the original Valis has different armor like the MSX Valis II. It looks like it's even visible on the character like the MSX Valis II. It's nice to see another Valis game use that feature again. BTW, Valis IV on SNES is nowhere near as bad as the MSX and NES versions of Valis 1. At least Valis IV has better hit detection and a much better indication of where to go than in the NES Valis.

There's any other Valis I than NES and MSX? And is it any good?

Because as it has been said.. the MSX one is horrible. It sucks badly badly. It has choppy scroll, your enemies have a completlely choppy movement, and they all apear FLASHING in bizarre colors (Which make them invisible if you don't have a good vision), you are most of the time completely lost, the levels are unbearably long.... it's completely poo.

The NES version doesn't have all those problems, but like Brian said, it's even worse than the MSX one regarding "where do I have to go?"

There are Genesis and PCE CD ramkes of Valis I. Oddly enough, the PCE CD version was actually one of the later Valis games. I don't know too much about the PCE CD one (some people say it's the best Valis and some say it isn't the best), but from what I tried, the Genesis one is decent, but not great. Valis III (the one game that is similar on both platforms it is on) is definatly much better. It seems that Valis I is the most remade of the Valis games. Actually, if you count Syd of Valis/SD Valis, the Genesis had two remakes of the first Valis.

This mobile phone Valis seems to stick to the tradition of remaking Valis I with elements from the newer games. As I said before, one of the forgotten features of Valis II MSX (which is very good from what I played) seems to be making a return. While I don't like the idea of it being on a cell phone platform, this remake does sound interesting.

Actually, I liked the cool anime cut scenes of the Genesis version of Valis III, a bit more than the PCE CD version. The Genesis had a higher res.
The ingame graphics of Valis III on the DUO, had more colours than the Genesis, but the Genesis version had a bit better animation than the DUO & slightly better Boss patern.

Some levels were diffrerent between the 2 versions & had a diffrerent order.

I haven't played Valis I on the PCE DUO, but the Genesis version is awesome! I love them all!
Yuko & the rest of the Chicks are so cool ;)

Oh, Valis 2 on MSX indeed is very good. It's one of the classics of the system, and one game that pushes the hardware a lot.

I've seen the game running in a overclocked MSX and it looks even more incredible.

Ha, amazing; this cell phone remake looks even better than the original Valis on the Genesis.

What an age to be alive, eh!

There is also a Mushihimesama game ported onto JPN Cell Phones.

Only thing missing is Axelay. Now that would be really something.

Interesting how this cell phone Mushihime-sama game seems to be lincensed by Capcom. The copyright says 2001 Capcom, so maybe it's a Mushihime version of a 2001 Capcom shooter?

That screenshot is of the Progear cell phone game that Capcom licensed (hence the 2001). Don't think they have anything to do with the Mushi cell game.

Very confusing. Why is a screenshot of the Progear cell phone game being shown with Mushihime? What does the Japanese on the poster say?

The poster is an ad for the Mushihime-sama cell phone game - it's an original game, not a port of the arcade game. The note at the bottom has a pic of Progear and text that brags about Cave's other games available. I had their game service for a little while... it was mediocre. Cell phone games have terrible controls no matter who makes em.

As for why Reko is being used in the ad...

Reko = H@WT
Progear != H@WT

:wink: :lol:
