RQ: Dodonpachi Autofire/Power up system

Post by Spacehog »

Hi guys,
two questions:

How can I switch on autofire in dodonpachi with mame0.99. Change dip switches?

And what determines how many power up levels I loose when I die and how many power ups immediately float around when you respawn?
Playing awhile now but seems pretty random to me...

thx!

Once the game is loaded, press and hold F2 on the keyboard and you'll enter service mode. Once there, go to 'Configuration' and then choose 'C Button Full-Auto'. From now on, whatever button you assigned as button 3 will be auto-fire.

As for the rest of your post, I dunno.

Depends on which "type" you're playing - if you're a "shot" type, your laser is knocked back to square one but your shot is only knocked down one level. The opposite applies to "laser" types.
and how many power ups immediately float around when you respawn
I think it's influenced by how many times you've died - roughly I think you get more when you've died more times, but I've never observed all that closely.

Amount of power ups dropped when defeated:
# Lives Lost-1. So the first miss won't give you back a power up.

Thanks for fast answers!

Sounds like it is not a good idea to die with the shot type ship in boss fights as you need the laser...

Laser's damage doesn't change that much. Most important change of upgraded laser is it's width.

Do you know how much the laser damage increases per power up? Perhaps in % or so...

It's only one point/frame per level.
Base damage is 68/frame for laser types, for shot types it depends on ship. So the difference between weakest and strongest laser is maybe 10% or less.
EDIT: look here.
