Which new shooter are you most looking forward to?
Lots of titles coming to consoles: Thunder Force VI, Raiden IV, Death Smiles, Kesui (DS & 360 versions), DOJ black label, Fantasy Zone complete collection, Otomedius, and probably some others I'm forgetting atm...
EDIT: Gradius and R-Type titles coming soon as downloads.
I'd probably go with Death Smiles because it reminds me of Progear and I love horror themes.

This post reminded me that for the first time in years, there's a shit load of awesome shooters coming out for consoles. In fact, there's a shit load of awesome games in general coming out, but that's best saved for off-topic.
At the moment, it's all about the run up to Ketsui Death Label, a game I've refused to let myself get excited about for so long, given that the first I heard of it was from a seedy video that surfaced on April 1st last year. But of course, there's the prospect of playing 'proper' Ketsui on a console. I've only played it a few times, but it's one of the most refreshing games I have ever played, with fast, clean bullet patterns, a breezy musical score, and the satisfaction of having a load of cubes flying into you going dingdingdingding. Hopefully the port can convey this most awesome of feelings.
And then there's Deathsmiles, a game I've been hankering to play for ages but seriously thought I never would. The cheesy graphics and ridiculous music are simply fantastic, and while I can only muse at what it would be like to play the thing, I assume it will be an awesome experience

R-Type Generations? Now I remember: R-Type Dimensions.RuffNEC wrote:Raiden IV, Otomedius, Thunderforce VI, Ketsui, Death Smiles, R-Type Generations.
It couldn't be better.

Ketsui X, definitely. One of the games that almost literally embodies about everything I like in shmups. I'm buying the x360 for it alone, basically, although I'll obviously get the other Cave releases as well as the Treasure shmup, probably Raiden 4, and maybe something else (RFA?).

I played Death Smiles a lot on a recent trip to Tokyo and really liked it. (The only criticism I'd make is that it seemed kind of easy compared to other Cave titles, but maybe the difficulty was just set low on the machine I played.)
At some point I will buy a JP 360 since I'd really love to get hold of Otomedius and the Raidens, but for now the one I'm most looking forward to is TFVI; I love Thunder Force and it's something I can play on hardware I already own.

Well, the bullet patterns are a little more in line with fighters (a good thing), but the scoring systems (talking about 3 and 4 here) aren't as good. Unfortunately the pacing is a bit more in line with the older games. I wish Raiden 3 started with level 5 and went from there. Still quite a bit of fun, though, good for a rush every now and then.captpain wrote:So what are the newer Raiden games like? Last one I played was Fighters Jet, which had lots of fast-moving bullets and the sprites were really big.
Not sure about the sprites being really big though? They seem just right to me.
Isn't every gradius a remake?I'm hoping that GR is a new title and not the remake that everyone says it is.

From this year's home lineup I'm really looking forward to the System-16 remake of Fantasy Zone II included on the FZ Ages Package.
I mean I've played all the Cave shmups, I imagine Raiden IV to play a lot like R3 with better graphics and while I look forward to TF6 in terms of gameplay, I don't like the 3D-ish G5 look of it as much I love the look of the new FZII remake

Hmmm... in order:
1. Ketsui X
2. Ketsui DS
3. Death Smiles
4. Otomedius
And thats all I'm really looking forward to. I've got Raiden IV pre-ordered, but I don't like the classic Raiden series (just Raiden Fighters), so... thats just me supporting the shmups on 360. Same will apply for DDP DOJ, I don't like the 'Pachis, but I'll snag it just to support the genre on the 360.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!!!
I've been off the boards for a good 6 months or so and just shit myself that people are talking about TF6.... is it on Dreamcast?!
Time to do some homework. btw, the only game I have bought in the last year is Castle Shikigami 3 on Wii which is good fun, but I honestly thought would be the last decent US released shmup in my life with the way the gaming industry has lost my interest.

It's one of the biggest names in the genre returning after being assumed to be dead. And looking pretty much fantastic too.
TecnoSoft's ThunderForce VI gets my vote for most anticipated shmup.
It's the only non arcade based shmup in the list as well, and I'd like to support native console games.
I am still considering buying a JP or Asian X360 for all the stuff coming that way though. Death Smiles looking to be the most appealing to me in that bunch.

I am not good with names but weren't some of the previous dev team members on board for this?jp wrote:Super Laydock wrote:

Fixed. Tecno Soft, or anyone that has ever had anything to do with Tecno Soft, has absolutely nothing to do with this.
Even if it's made under the name of Sega...

edit: please reply to this in the TFVI thread so we do not derail this thread as much as has happened...
